These spectacular posters may not be horses you see in real life, but perhaps in your dreams (if you're lucky!). The horses featured are still from photographs, but the backgrounds (or in the case of the unicorn, the horn and wings) may be created. The pictures are beautiful – horses galloping through the clouds, rearing in the sunset, flying through the air, etc.

Watching a horse in action is one of the most beautiful things in the world. Zach and I just love to go outside and watch Challi, Tonto, and El Guapo tearing around and goofing off in their pasture. Tonto especially, as a Friesian cross, has a spectacular trot. This collection of posters depicts horses in thundering gallops, floating trots, and more. As with the rest of the series, the photographs and backgrounds are beautiful and will thrill your horse lover.

This large poster classifies insects into three main categories: Prominent Wings, Wingless, and Modified Wings. The purpose of the chart is to introduce students to the various types of insects, learn the insect orders, and identify the characteristics that determine an insect's classification. For each of the three categories, colorful illustrations of several insects are displayed, listing their order with info that describes them and points out why they are classified the way they are. The bottom of the chart describes basic insect anatomy and defines some terms found on the poster. This provides a great way for students to visualize the organization of insect orders and learn how to classify insects themselves. 24" x 36". ~ Rachel

Even if you live in an urban area, you can still learn all about animal tracks and make your own realistic casts with this kit from Young Scientist's Club. The kit includes plaster of Paris, a brush, sand, two bowls, an animal track game with 80 cards, a poster, stickers, two popsicle sticks, a measuring cup, watercolor paint and an instruction manual. Play the card game to match animals with their tracks (learning 40 animal tracks in the process!), and place matching animal and track stickers on the poster. Several groups of animal tracks are featured at the bottom of the poster – can you tell the "story" behind them? Then get ready to make your own set of animal track casts using the eight included molds and plaster! After you've perfected your casting technique, it's time to look for animal tracks in nature. When you find one, follow the instructions to capture the track using wet plaster and add your "wild find" to your new collection of animal tracks. The full-color instructions walk parent and child through the activities and directions, and provide a place to record answers and observations. This would be a fun kit to explore before taking a hiking, hunting or camping trip; you could even take the animal track matching game on the road with you for the whole family to enjoy! – Jess

If you're looking for a fun yet fact-filled supplement about or introduction to dinosaurs from a Christian point of view, check out this book by Earl and Bonita Snellenberger. Besides captivating, biblically/scientific based facts and information, this activity book includes toys to make, games to play, puzzles, puppets, dot-to-dots, tangram puzzles, and mazes. The black and white illustrations throughout the book are perfect for coloring. The book includes tons of information about what makes a dinosaur, how fossils are made and restored, the history of dinosaurs and fossil hunting, faults in the evolution theory, Creation (in six, 24-hour days), the different types of dinosaurs and features their bodies had, Noah's flood, and more. The information is plentiful and, with the dozens of accompanying hands-on activities, students will have lots of fun as they learn the basics about dinosaur life and the different types of dinosaurs. As a bonus, a glossy, 2-page poster is included that pictures and identifies some of the most amazing dinosaurs. The book is not reproducible, so any patterns that must be cut out have a blank back and students can color, complete puzzles, and read directly from the book. 128 pgs, pb. ~ Rachel

Understanding and appreciating nature begins with immersing ourselves into the environment in which we are most familiar. Whether in the city or suburbs, seaside or countryside, we all have the opportunity to develop a love for nature through the study of birds. This beautifully illustrated book will inspire you through graphics, hands-on activities and observations. Topically, children will learn how to create a bird journal, identify feather shapes and field marks, beaks and feet marks, migration, and the variety of food eaten by birds. A sampling of the 30 hands-on activities includes making bird feeders, drawing birds, measuring (your) wingspan, creating a territory map, designing a poster and numerous observation activities. Adding to the value are a glossary of terms; common and scientific names list; recommended online resources and a 2-page teacher guide with extension activities. A perfect resource for introducing Nature studies or for complementing a bird unit study. 108 pgs, sc. ~ Deanne

From the same publisher as, The Complete Book of Animals (#19546), this condensed version offers appealing graphics and full-color background pages, which makes it a little livelier than the above. While the font is smaller than its predecessor, which accounts for most of the page difference between the two, children with visual difficulties may appreciate the darker font within the pages of Exploring Animals. Content-wise, most of the book is identical, but this version leaves out just a few sections here and there, most being "fun" pages like coloring and activity pages, and also the animal facts and fun section that provides additional review worksheets of the topics covered. One nice benefit of Exploring Animals is the fold-out poster is a map of the continents for identifying the natural habitats of the animals studied, as compared to the Complete Book of Animals poster which focuses on endangered animals. Includes stickers and complete answer keys. If you are looking for a science workbook to provide a base for further hands-on explorations and like the idea of less busy work, this book will be ideal for you. sc. 256 pgs. ~Deanne
