This Teacher Guide creates a zoology unit study for elementary students using The World of Animals, Wonders of God's World Dinosaur Activity Book, The Complete Aquarium Adventure, and The Complete Zoo Adventure. The 180 daily lessons are detailed in the suggested schedule chart, along with space to record due dates for assignments and grades. Also included in the planner are student worksheets for The World of Animals, quizzes and tests, and the answer key. The worksheets are simply answering questions concerning the assigned reading, and permission is given for copying to small groups of ten or less and homeschool families. Students will learn about simple animals, worms/snails/starfish, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Five bonus activities are included in the planner for a hands-on experience in each subject area. These activities are optional, but even choosing just one in each section will enhance the learning experience. ~ Donna

This is it, the eagerly anticipated and finally available third book in the"Exploring Creation with Zoology" series. Now it's time to learn about all the land animals God created on the sixth day. Animals in this category are diverse and include many different types. Like the others in this series, the groups are studied using their scientific names. You'll learn about Carnivores, Caniforms, Feliforms, Marsupials, Primates, Rodentia, Ungulates (hoofed animals), Artiodactyla, reptiles, amphibians, and even dinosaurs. The book is divided into 14 modules, each containing the quality information and illustrations you've come to expect from Apologia. Children will learn about what makes each group very special and different from other groups of animals. At the end of each module, children will engage in a variety of notebookactivities and experiments. A "Track It!" activity helps students identify tracks of the animals just covered in that module. The "Map It!" activity encourages students to mark a map with the location of where you might find the animals from that module. How Exciting! I think parents will really enjoy learning along with their children about the unique land creatures God created.

I wouldn't recommend this container for long-term living, but it's pretty snazzy for a temporary home. It has a log hidey-hole, a light for nighttime, and a removable water insert. Since the sides are clear, you can watch your water-loving friends swim underwater. If your friend doesn't swim, just remove the insert and your creature will have fun slopes to slide and climb. Capture core (see Lazer Light Bug Vacuum, item #056044) screws in to the habitat for painless transfer. Measures 13.5" L x 7.4" W x 8.5" H. ~ Janine

Beginning with microscopic life, this beautifully photographed encyclopedia invites children to a world teeming with diversity and color. Children will learn fascinating details. Did you know that even though all spiders make silk only some species catch prey in their webs? Did you know the polar bear is the largest land-based meat eater? This enthralling resource offers more than 1500 photographs!

Information is presented according to how the animals relate to one another. The first section microscopic life covers bacteria, single-celled life, zooplankton and seaweeds. Next are short chapters on fungi and plants as the foundation of the tree of life. Subsequent chapters are dedicated to invertebrates, insects, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The photography is up close and personal; children will be able to see the intricate details and vibrant colors of each animal represented. An excellent resource for your home or class library. 302 pgs, hc. ~ Deanne

Institute for Creation Research presents a well-researched, engaging introduction to the animal kingdom. Beginning with animals in God’s creation and the classification system, there is a brief discussion about humans as animals and an introduction to Charles Darwin’s work. Once the Biblical foundation is established, animals are divided by their design: swim, flight and land mover. A variety of animals are studied within this designation before introducing extinct and fossilized animals, and how animals use their senses and communicate. Additionally, children learn about camouflage, bioluminescence, migration, habitats, hibernation, and more. Beautifully illustrated with photographs and drawings. A recommended supplement to My Father’s World Exploration to 1850. Indexed. 117 pgs, hc. ~ Deanne

As a bird enthusiast, I am not easily impressed when a new birding for beginners type book lands on my desk. Many of the books are written from the same perspective - here is how to do it, and here is a catalog of common birds to go out and find. Taking a different spin on bird watching, this book piqued my interest level. Yes, it does begin with the basics necessary to the new bird watching enthusiast, but it narrows the focus to a location we all are familiar with…our own backyard (or sky outside our window for those without a yard.) The author walks you gently through the usual and unusual places that birds can be found and introduces the value of nature sketching.

However, this is where the similarity to other introductory bird books ends. Beginning with the importance of observation, she leads children through bird identification by color and shape including the perched and flight silhouettes, bills, feet, and crests. She also encourages observation of behavior, sounds, habitats and other fine details before introducing the value of field guides, migration and classification. Bird sketching tips are intermingled throughout the text. An excellent introduction to bird watching or a valuable companion to the bird field guides on your shelf. Graphically detailed with colorful illustrations and textual information, reminiscent of an Usborne book. Recommended resources and web link provided. 55 pgs, hc. ~Deanne

Love animals? Know a lot about them? Put that knowledge to the test in a battle of wits with your friends and family. The goal is to work your way around the game board rolling a die & answering questions and collecting a survival token for each correct answer. Each card has a beginner and an advanced question on it. Determine ahead of time which player will get which questions. So an 8 yr old (using beginner questions) can play against a 14 year old (using advanced questions.) There are 3 types of cards: "Know It" are multiple choice questions. "Name It" requires a player to identify an animal from a photo, and "Rank It" cards have you put animals in order given a certain trait (eg: Rank these birds from the largest to smallest egg – ostrich, duck, hummingbird.) 2-4 players ~ Sara
