When reading the Bible, sometimes it is hard for kids (and adults) to see the "big picture." This big (and I mean BIG) Bible time line will help you see when the Bible events happened in relation to each other and how those events fit together to tell one BIG story! This reproducible book contains 68 11" x 8 1/2" pages. Each page highlights two major events, including a scripture reference, estimated time in history, and a black-and-white cartoon illustration that can be colored. When all the pages are hung side-by-side in chronological order it creates a 60' long time line. This timeline begins with Adam and Eve in the garden, and finishes with John being exiled on Patmos writing Revelation. Some fun activities are outlined in the introduction that will help you make the most of this great teaching tool. No matter how you put this time line to use, your children will appreciate the simple way it communicates the big picture of what the Bible is all about. Pb, 78 pgs. – elise

This book gives a detailed, interesting account of United States history in a story-telling style. Full-color photographs and illustrations that support the text add to the learning experience. Timelines, profiles of historical figures, maps, charts, and graphs also help in learning and building map-reading skills. Meant to be used as an aid with any social studies curriculum, the book begins with an account of the arrival of the first Americans who traveled from Asia over the Bering Land Bridge and ends with a discussion of the information super highway of the twenty first century. The book is not written from a Christian perspective and religious references are not included.

The book is broken down into ten units that tell of different eras in our history. Unit One tells about the Americas until the early 1500's. It discusses how people first came to the continent and tells of ancient Native American culture. Unit Two covers from 1492 to 1700 and shares the European exploration of America. Unit Three tells of the adventures that took place and the people involved during the colonial times of 1550 to 1775. Unit Four discusses the Revolutionary War and the beginning years of the nation from 1775 to 1810. Unit Five discusses the expansion of the U.S. from 1785 to 1860. Topics such as Lewis and Clark, The Erie Canal, the gold rush, and the Pony Express are covered. Unit Six tells about the Civil War, covering everything from slavery to Gettysburg to Lincoln's assassination. Unit Seven portrays the life events of the American people from 1865 to 1900. The railroad, pioneer life, and the Nez Perce are just a few of the topics covered in this section. Unit Eight covers from 1890-1920, including inventions like the airplane or ideas like the assembly line or the beginning of women's suffrage. Unit Nine tells of some struggles America overcame from 1914-1945, such as WW I, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and WW II, but it also lists some positive things that happened during the period, such as Jesse Owens winning Olympic medals and Charles Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic. The final unit covers 1950 to the present time.

Students read about all these historical events in a pleasant manner, and included activities add interest. Activities include writing essays about events or people, identifying things on maps, filling out word puzzles, and creating time-lines. Answers included. ~ Rachel S.

It sure is!  It’s about time someone made an inexpensive, spiral-bound timeline affordable enough to use for specific studies or for one-year use. Timelines are a wonderful tool for putting events and people into context as they are studied during the year - if you can get your children into the “timeline habit”.  Reading about Isaac Newton and the “discovery” of gravity in science?  Chart it!  Using the Phythagorean theorem in math?  Put in on!  Reading Beowulf in literature?  Add it, too!  You get the idea.  By the end of the year, they should have a great visual overview of the year to reflect back on.  Another great feature of this timeline is its flexibility. You customize the pages to fit your needs.  Each divided column can be a year, decade, century, or whatever you decide.  Focus in or get the big picture - it adapts to your needs.  The shaded row along the center can be used to record the time periods for that page.  The shaded row at the top can contain a page title, or period designation.  Divided lines that separate the ruled columns can also be used to categorize entries by topic or subject area. 28 blank form pages and a sample page gives ideas on customizing timelines.

A fantastic companion to any study of history, or even just engaging reading for any history buff, this timeline is a very accessible "look-up" resource for historical events. History is divided into 20 eras, which each include a 32-inch fold out timeline and three additional pages that highlight specific figures and events from the period. The timeline pages begin with fairly large time spans and become narrower as the book progresses into modern times. There are four eras from the beginning of history to the BC/AD change, ten from AD1 – 1900, and six eras from 1900 to today (2010). There is also a 4-page, non-fold-out timeline covering American history specifically. I should also note that the first timeline covers "prehistory" from 6 million to 3000 BC. It includes "information" on the evolution and migration of "early humans." This is a secular text, though it does reference the lives of numerous religious figures throughout history. The timeline pages are packed with chronological dates accompanied by capsule summaries and plenty of photos and illustrations. 131 page, hc. – Zach

This beautifully designed timeline package is designed to accompany the History Odyssey program and includes four timelines: Ancients (6000 BCE - AD 500), Middle Ages (AD 500 - 1600), Early Modern (AD 1600 - 1850) and Modern Times (AD 1850 - Present Day). Although timelines are blank for the student to record events, they are printed in full-color and feature small graphics sprinkled here and there. To keep entries organized, each timeline is divided into seven category sections including: Men & Women, Inventions & Discoveries, Wars & Conflicts, Eras & Dynasties, Art & Literature, General Events, and Treaties/Agreements. Each timeline is five feet in length, features evenly spaced date lines, and can be displayed on a wall or hole-punched and placed into a binder. An optional Prehistory Timeline is also available if you would like to add a segment covering 2 million BCE to 7000 BCE (item #39409) Also, the optional timeline sticker pack is still available (#42770) which features 200 black-and-white stickers of famous people and events from 6000 BCE to present day.

Finally, a timeline created specifically for the high school student! Recognizing that most commercially available timelines are geared toward younger children and offer loads of space for pictures/illustrations but little space for textual information, Janice Campbell has created a timeline perfect for older students.

How is this timeline different? First the main part of the timeline consists of a two-page spread with a five column grid on each page. Each of the columns represents one decade (AD) or one century (BC), meaning that each two page spread equals either one century (AD) or one millennium (BC). Below each grid section is a set of short lines. These lines are designed to record brief items of interest such as a discovery or battle. The author has included suggestions for using a special mark for the event as well as developing a color-coding system for quick referencing. Other differences include a note section at the bottom of each two page spread; special notes section and helpful suggestions for using 3x5 index cards to expand the timeline information.

Timeline begins at 6,000 BC and ends with 2200 AD. Also included is a blank TimeFrame page for a special topic or period study or to photocopy to expand a specific time period. While sharing a variety of ideas for how to use the TimeFrame Timeline, creative juices will flow and it will quickly become a personal reflection of your teen's interests and personality. pb., spiral. ~ Deanne

Although designed to be used alongside Streams of Civilization from Christian Liberty Press, this ready-made timeline would also be a helpful addition to any world history text. The timeline consists of 22 11"x17" looseleaf pages covering the period 750 B.C. to 2000 A.D. Textual entries on the timeline focus on people (rather than events) in two areas - general history and Bible/church history. (After 1450 A.D., general history is divided into political history, intellectual history, and art/science history. Pages are divided into 50-year segments (25-year segments after 1775 A.D.). Pages are folded in half, and come in a plastic pouch for storage when not in use.

Around here, we like things that just work and get the job done, and are easy-to-use. I guess that's why we liked this product. It takes the time, frustration, and work out of creating endless paper timelines, or even using a blank one by letting you create it all on a computer, and than make as many copies as you need. Easy Timeline Creator gives the user a host of options and flexibility to create any sort of timeline. Basically, the program leads the user through a series of windows, through which they determine the title of their timeline, choose a starting and ending date, select the frequency and distance between the tick marks (years, decades, centuries, etc.). Once the basics have been settled, the user can check categories to be represented on the timeline, including literature, science, space, or different time periods or civilizations such as Greece, Rome, or the Middle Ages. Selecting these will place an item in the timeline with a special icon in front of it to clearly designate it as a development or event in that category. Then you're ready to add events. To add an event, just type it in, add a date, or starting and ending dates, and the category you've chosen that it belongs in, and you're set. You can also change the font type or color to really separate events and make them stand out if you want. Once you've added your events, you can see your timeline on the screen with your events placed on it with their small colored icons. At this point you can add clipart, either from the 100 images included on the CD-ROM, or any of your own choosing. You can click and drag or resize images and place them wherever you'd like, or delete it again if you want. There are also a number of options for printing, including the paper orientation and a fit to page option. As soon as you're happy, print it out, and voila - you have a custom timeline to fit whatever you're studying. With such an easy-to-use interface, and simple steps, this will cut timeline-making time in half - and likely inspire you to use it often! Students can even make their own timelines. I just love it when someone develops a product that's timesaving, easy-to-use, and does just what it should. It's about time for a product like this! Systems requirements: Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher, 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended) - Jess

The first paragraph from the preface of this book offers a wonderful insight into this book. It reads: "The story of the Christian Church is intensely interesting. It deals with some of the most dramatic episodes in history. For the children of God it is also instructive and inspiring. They regard it as a heritage that should be passed on to their children." This book was created as a textbook for a Christian-perspective class about church history. The text is divided into five sections, and spans history from 33 A.D. to present times. The five sections cover the young Christian Church, the Church in the Middle Ages, the Church in the Reformation, the Church After the Reformation, and the Church in the New World. Each section is then further divided into chapters which discuss the growth of the church, divisions, rises and declines of power, reformations, the church in various countries, various denominations, and lots of other components of church history. After each chapter, review questions are offered to promote further thinking about the chapter and its relevance to current life. The questions can be rather complex and are probably best used with students from the upper grades. Maps and timelines throughout the book correlate with the text, and dozens of black and white photographs with captions illustrate the events. 412 pgs w/ index. ~ Rachel S.
