Is it a planner? Or a how-to book on homeschooling high school? You’ll have to decide for yourself. For each of the four high school years there is a 44-page planner section; it includes six monthly two-page layouts, a two-page six month calendar, a journal-type semester summary, attendance record, and achievement record for each semester, plus two articles that pertain to planning that year. The layout for each month shows five columns with lined boxes for each day. There’s room to write assignments for six subjects, complete with check-off circle. A sixth column has a character challenge, a monthly summary (e.g. grades, attendance, and activities), and a brief note on future planning. Each month’s pages also include a scripture verse and miniature current and following month’s calendars. The beginning of the book has a sample month, course requirements, a course planning worksheet, transcript requirements, and a sample transcript. The end of the book provides a section on college preparation – a checklist on what to do when, blank high school transcripts, college portfolio worksheet and details, worksheets (college and scholarship considerations), and notes.

As with other planners from Well-Planned Day, color and graphic schemes (different for each year) are inviting and strike a nice balance in appealing to both genders. Planner is 8.5” x 11” spiral-bound. Janice

Are you like me? Color and beauty make me happy. A well-organized, common-sensible planner makes me want to plan. When both are wrapped up into one user-friendly, cheerful, full-of-extras package, I'm ready to grab my pen!

First, let's talk about the basics. Each week has a two-page spread in the spiral-bound (lies flat) 8.5 x 11" planner. Days (Mon-Fri) are across the top (three on left-hand page; two on right-hand page). Each of these columns has five subject sections (Bible, Math, History, Science, English). Each of these sections has four lines. In other words, for each day, and each subject, you can briefly record a 2 " line for each of three or four children or use two lines for two children or four lines for one child. There are additional boxes (total of seven lines) at the bottom of each column any other subjects. Each of these lines in each column ends with a small colored box for check-offs. The remaining vertical column on the right-hand page has lined space to record weekly priorities, daily dinner menus, and weekend activities.  Each week includes a Bible verse on one page and a notable quote (think inspirational Facebook status posts) on the other.

Now for the extras - sample planner page, place to insert a family picture and record family memories, a weekly cleaning schedule, special projects page (monthly boxes with reminders of those easy-to-forget occasional cleaning tasks), important contacts, children chore cards (perforated and ready to tear out), teacher schedule, class plan (curriculum) and student schedules for four children,  semester goals, monthly calendar with accompanying page to record books to read, field trips, and monthly expenses, perforated shopping lists (set of six for each month), semester accomplishments, attendance records, and grade recording sheets. There is also two year at a glance calendars-current year and the upcoming year.

A set of four perforated, cardstock report cards are in the back (Each month is inaugurated with an encouraging article and has its own color scheme vibrant, subtle, cool, warm each satisfying. The graphic theme (which changes each year) is lively, and frankly, delightful. An extravagant claim perhaps, but I'll stick by it - using this planner will remind you daily that homeschooling is a wonderful calling, full of beauty and grace. Janice

From its school icon artwork and eye-pleasing lavender ink to the spiral (lay flat) binding, this plan book is a keeper. Each week is shown on a two-page spread, with the days (M-F) shown vertically on the left and seven time (subjects) slots horizontally across the top. The unlined boxes for recording daily work are nice and large, approx. 1.75” x 1.75”. An encouraging teachable quote is included weekly (i.e. Who dares to teach must never cease to learn. – John Cotton Dana). The extras before and after the forty weeks of planning pages are obviously classroom oriented and include a weekly schedule, class birthdays, room seating plan, roster, special teacher’s schedule and procedures, map of our school (graph paper grid), important people to know, discipline plan (class standards, consequences, reinforcements and rewards), and class seating chart possibilities. Classroom or homeschool teachers will find much to love about this new lesson plan book. Beginning with traditional teacher tools like important dates on the school calendar, information for substitute teachers, birthday grids, seating charts, student lists and long term planning grids, you are equipped for success even before you come to the planning sheets. Before I elaborate on the lesson planning sheets, I wanted to quickly comment on the long-term planning framework. Presented in a two-page spread, boxes measure approx. 4" x 2 ¾" and cover twelve calendar months, giving teachers and parents a perfect place to brainstorm and plan out long-term goals. Let's move on to the un-dated lesson planning pages, which are displayed on two-page spreads with five subject boxes down the left side. Across the top of the pages are six boxes - the first box is designated for notes and is followed by the days of the week. Boxes measure approx. 2 ½" x 1 ¾". The lesson planning pages are uncluttered with colorful edges and minimal graphics, making them visually appealing with ample white space for all of your important notes and plans. The plan books also offers two pockets on the inside cover, which perfectly fit the miscellany of papers (or bills!) that must be kept organized. Spiral bound. Brightly colored flower laminated cover. 8.5" x 11". ~Deanne

If you haven't yet been introduced to the Zome System, then you are in for a treat. Your child will learn how to build anything from a simple geometric shape (triangle) to the more complex icosahedron. They will learn simple concepts and terms such as edges, vertices, and faces. They will even learn more complex topics, such as recognizing the Fibonacci sequence and discovering common areas where this can be found in plants. The figures are fun to construct and thought provoking to discuss, as they help the student to develop geometric skills. These lesson plans are well laid out and superbly organized for the teacher. Each lesson plan is presented with an Objective, Prerequisite Skills required, Time Needed, Materials Needed, Procedure for lesson plan, Assessment for the teacher, which National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards were addressed, and a Transfer Possibilities area which presents different areas the topic just covered can be further explored. The lessons are categorized into three groups: 36 Lessons of Basic Concepts (Grades 1-3), 25 Lessons of Intermediate Concepts (Grades 4-8), and 3 Lessons of Advanced Concepts (Grades 9-12). However, it is recommended that even kids of high school age should make sure they understand the Basic and Intermediate concepts before moving on to the Advanced. The lesson plans are in binder page form and there are 11 pages of Glossary terms in the back. The recommended Zome kit to purchase with the Lesson Plans is the Adventurer Kit (242 pieces - see description in our Not Just For Fun section) for 1-3 students (good size for home use). ~ Carl

Every homeschooling parent has their own planning/organizing style and there are plenty of plan books out there to prove it! This spiral-bound plan book appears to cater to those that have two basic wants: 1) “I need plenty of space to record multiple assignments for multiple classes every day” and 2) “I don’t want any “extras” on the page – just the above referenced space, please.” Each pair of facing pages represents one week, 40 weeks in all, with the days written in the first column down the left-hand side, a notes/reminders column immediately to the right, and the rest of the pages devoted to recording assignments. 16 columns are provided for recording subject assignments, each with room at the top to write the subject name and time (if you are that organized!), and 6 spaces allotted for writing different assignments within that subject for each day of the week. You may find yourself using two columns for each subject since they only measure about an inch long, (the sample page at the front does the same) but even so there is room for eight subjects. Pages are simple with green text and outlines on white, and just slightly “cute” with a pencil border and curly text to match the cute critters on the front cover. The first ten pages of this planner are devoted to holding student information, substitute information, a conference schedule, a seating chart, student transportation information, birthdays, medical information, a daily schedule chart, and a yearly planning list, all of which make this planner ideal for teaching an entire class in a classroom setting, but can easily be removed or overlooked by the parent schooling at home who may not find them useful.
