Youve probably looked at or used an anatomy coloring book with your students, but this book takes the quality to a new level. This coloring book has a hardcover, 52 illustrations to color on thick durable pages, and a lot of information. The idea behind the book is that you will remember the material better if you make an association between the information and coloring a picture of the topic. The book is divided into chapters which include terminology, skin, skeletal, muscular, taste, head, brain, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and immune systems. The illustrations are anatomically correct and include scientific labeling. Two pages are devoted to each topic with one page of information which also includes 10 things to remember for every topic and 1 page of illustrations to color. While these dont have all of the detail you might find in some other anatomy coloring books, they are still detailed enough to be used as a supplement for any high school curriculum. This 128-page book also includes high-quality colored pencils (Faber Castell 8 color set), an eraser, and sharpener. A 52-question, fill-in-the-blank quiz is found at the conclusion of the book along with answer key and a full-color guide to the illustrations to be colored in the book. I know this book is intended for high school, but I think you could probably use it with junior high as well. The information is in an easy-to-read format and the book with materials is easy to transport with the built in pencil case. Use it as a ready reference, study tool, or reinforcement as you color a visual reminder. - Donna

This is a great introduction to the human body and its systems. Youll remember more using this right-left brain approach as you color the pictures of the systems while you read about the body. The book uses selected drawings from the med school classic, with various parts of each drawing identified. The detailed drawings are included on the right-hand page, with text on the opposite page describing how the parts function and where they are located. The text is simple and shares essential details so students from middle school to high school will understand the basics of how the body works. Skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, digestive, and reproductive systems are all covered in a basic and easy to understand way. 128 pgs, pb.

Everythings going 3-D these days, so why should flip charts be any different? Heres an eye-catching one that will help you in your studies of the human body. The chart is fairly large, measuring 12 x 16, and features a three dimensional male figure in the center. The chart is spiral-bound at the top and as you flip through the charts, various levels of the human body are revealed. Body parts, muscular system, digestive system, nervous system, circulatory system, and skeletal system are the six layers included (no reproductive organs are shown). The charts are full of neat features. First of all, each layer actually gets two charts. The first chart is a dry-erase quiz page with blanks for students to label various aspects of the featured system. Flip the dry-erase layer up, and the second layer gives all the answers and has the body labeled. The back of the dry-erase layer includes a definition of all the parts that were labeled on the chart, so students can see and understand their functions. Each of the six layers also has a cross section of a specific part for students to label and study as well (skin, posterior muscular system, the mouth, a neuron, the heart, and a bone). Even though the charts dont label a ton of parts for each body system, this flip chart is very visually appealing and the dry-erase option adds a lot of value. ~Rachel

I think "adventure" was a good choice of words to include in this whirlwind tour of the human body! This full-color, lively guide takes readers system by system through the human body, incorporating diagrams, detailed anatomy illustrations, facts, physical activities, and pencil-and-paper activities. Nine chapters cover the skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, digestive system, eyes, ears, taste and smell. Each section is several pages long, and moves from the general to the more specific in content, and wraps up with activities. In the skeletal system section, readers can examine a fully labeled skeleton, with common and anatomical names for the bones and bone groups, and read facts about our bones. The next page zeroes in on the spine, shows how the spinal bones are put together, and shows how bones support our body and protect it. The last page on bones discusses bone growth, and shows the different parts of a bone using a detailed bone diagram and a blown-up cross-section of bone. The activities for the bone section include a word puzzle using bone terminology, a match between common and scientific bone names, a word problem that asks students to try to figure out how tall they may get, and a list of places on your body you can touch to feel the different bones and joints that are hidden underneath. Although the pages are pretty busy, the book quality is excellent, and the detailed anatomy drawings are terrific. I also like that the activities and "side-bars" apply anatomy topics to kids, so they can "experience" for themselves, and think about anatomy in terms of their bodies, not just from a drawing in a book! - Jess

If you have ever wondered how your body works as one integral system and how your different body systems operate, this book is for you. Did you know that rods and cones help you see? Six different types of joints allow your bones to move together. Different hormones help regulate your appetite. A Day in the Life of Your Body is aptly named as it follows a girl in her activities throughout the day. From the time that she wakes to the moment she goes to sleep, the young person and her bodys systems are discussed. During each hour of the day, a separate system is analyzed with the right amount of detail. There is a separate section at the end of the book on cells, how to stay healthy, health myths and facts, germs, and other information on health. The graphics on each page are very bright and clear to follow, and the written information is scattered throughout the page around the graphics, making it interesting for kids to learn the material. When the children are finished reading this book, they will have learned information from the skeletal and digestive systems to how the eye sees. 64 pgs, hc. John

As part of my college studies, I took two anatomy and physiology classes. Anatomy and physiology are very closely linked because anatomy (the structure of any given part) shows what the physiology (function or movement) will be. Studying anatomy and physiology, I have often been fascinated by the design of our bodies. This hefty book provides a very thorough and easy-to-understand approach to understanding complex systems. Chapters cover a general introduction to anatomy and physiology, chemical basis, cells and cell physiology, tissues, the integumentary system, bones and joints, the skeletal system, muscle physiology, muscles, the nervous system, the special senses, the endocrine system, blood, the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic and immune systems, the respiratory system, the digestive system, metabolism and nutrition, the urinary system, fluid, electrolyte, and acid/base balance, and the reproductive systems. Very complete, with questions and quizzes at the end of every chapter to test your understanding. ~ Megan

More than just posters, these are interactive learning resources to use with your health/anatomy studies. The set includes four body system posters (13 x 24), 80 labels (2 x 1), and a resource guide. Each poster shows a diagram with blank labeling spaces. The student then places the correctly titled label in the appropriate blank space there are 20 labels per poster. The four posters show the skeletal system, respiratory and circulatory systems, digestive system, and the human body. This last one shows major organs of the body. Labels are color-coded to each poster, so there will be no confusion about which the labels should match, and there are even a few blank ones so you can add your own or replace any that might get lost. There is no way to attach the labels to the posters, so you will want to attach hook and loop dots, reusable mounts, or double-sided tape to the labels/poster for easier practice. The resource guide shows correct labeling of each poster along with suggestions for use and an explanation of each system. Students can practice over and over or just hang them up with the answers as a visual reminder during your study. ~ Donna
