I have a fondness for classic Margaret Wise Brown books. There’s something so appealing and simply lovely about them. This collection follows a little black dog named Muffin through three different books: The Noisy Book, The Indoor Noisy Book and The Quiet Noisy Book. The stories each use a question format to uncover what Muffin is hearing (Is it a ___?)—with sometimes surprise endings. Wonderful, bold (but not overwhelming), stylized illustrations fill each page, but make sure you keep looking for Muffin. Just endearing! 8.5” x 11”, 128 pp, sc. ~ Ruth

This clever little book is a journal, doodle pad and sketch book all in one. Half the book is full of writing prompts and the other half is full of drawing prompts. One cover says I Like to Write. Flip it over and the other cover says I Like to Draw. The book is colorful with simple, sketch-like illustrations. You may see a paint palette to fill in, with a task at the bottom like I see you are a painter. The paint is all over your studio! Your job is to fill in the colors on the palette. On the writing side, you may see 2 champagne glasses with bubbles. Your prompt reads: A toast is the perfect time to share love and gratitude. Whether you are raising your glass of apple juice or toasting a pair of champagne flutes, practice your skills. Write down several toasts to use in a pinch. All will cheer and you will have no fear. You write on both pages for this topic. Most take 2 pages. The book lies open nicely for this purpose. Reinforced soft cover, 128pp ~ Sara

Mr. and Mrs. Mallard are looking for the perfect place to raise a family. They select a quiet spot on an island in a river in Boston. Although it is a little bit of a walk, it is still close enough for them to go to the Public Garden Park and see their favorite policeman, Michael, who feeds them peanuts. Soon Mrs. Mallard lays eight eggs, which hatch into eight adorable ducklings. One day Mr. Mallard decides to venture down the river, and he tells Mrs. Mallard to meet him at the park in exactly one week. Mrs. Mallard teaches the little ducklings how to swim, dive, stay away from danger, and walk in a straight line, and then they are off to the park to meet their father. Mrs. Mallard leads them to the riverbank and off they march to the park. Will they get through the busy town safely?

"Won't you join up, Comrades?" Kantorek, a schoolteacher, addresses his class of young men. Those days seem long ago to Paul Bäumer and his classmates, all of whom enlisted in the German army of World War I. Although they are hardly twenty years of age, in a matter of time the fighting, death, and poor living conditions around them have aged them well beyond their years. Paul remains close to his classmates and they find a few other good friends in the army. Time after time, their unit is called up to the front, and they are forced to deal with the horrors of bombardments on their trenches, the shells, the gas, and the death of so many comrades. This book is a very vivid account of a war where young men of the same generation but different uniforms were forced to grow up early in the war. - Melissa

In the middle of a quiet night, the music of the wind whispers to a little boy, and the owl calls him to a barn dance. Led by the fiddle-playing scarecrow, this charming, rhyming tale shows a silly all-night dance of all the barnyard animals coming together to do-si-do and swing their partner round ‘n round before sneaking back home in the early morning light. Luke loves trains because they take you places. But this train is bringing someone back: the deceased President Lincoln. Luke takes in the scenes, the throng of mourners, and sees his Dad cry for the first time. Vibrant gouache watercolor illustrations fill this book’s pages, helping convey (while staying age-appropriate) the emotional tribute to the first assassinated U.S. President. One might think a mourning procession an odd theme for a picture book, but I appreciate this quiet and respectful recounting of “the mightiest outpouring of grief” our nation had yet seen. After the story, two pages detail interesting facts from the 13-day trip from Washington to Springfield. 8 1/2” x 10 7/8”, 40 pp, sc. ~ Ruth

Selah. Stop. Listen. Pause. Reflect. In Hebrew, the systematic meaning of this word is unknown, yet it has been widely speculated. One thing translators and commentators do seem to agree on is that the word intimates the importance of the passage preceding it. This word is used predominately in the book of Psalm. Personally, I believe there is no greater place in Scripture to slow down, hear from God and reflect on Him than God's songbook!

Inviting you to drink deeply from His Word, this self pacing study offers twelve lessons on Happiness and Righteousness; Songs for waking and sleeping; Considering God's Name, His Enemies, His Creation; Declaring His Glory; God's Goodness; Waiting on God; Godliness and much more. Each lesson begins with scripture to read, an introduction to the study, related topical questions with additional scripture references and concludes with the Selah, Pause, and Think on These Things points. Space is provided for short answers although I suspect keeping a journal nearby would be beneficial to your personal quiet time reflections. As someone who spent several months learning from the book of Psalms alongside Charles Spurgeon's Treasury of David, I can assure you that a journey into Psalms can be quite satisfying. KJV is recommended although other versions may work if you have access to an online KJV for any translation differences. 105 pgs, sc. ~ Deanne

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Children are never too young to be saturated in God’s word and this CD is a delightful way to fill your children’s hearts and minds with Scripture. You will appreciate the quality of the multiple musical instruments and the sweet sounds of children’s voices singing 85 verses from the Old and New Testament. Music styles range from the soft, melodic lullaby to a more up-tempo toe-tapping country sound; this may become your favorite family “go to” music for the home and car. Scriptures from NIV Bible. Truly an auditory pleasure for all ages! Twenty songs, approximately one hour in length. ~ Deanne

Here is a unique blend of devotional, Bible reading plan and coloring book. Subtitled, Read the New Testament in 90 Days, you’ll find a daily reading plan for reading three chapters of the New Testament each day. Using this reading plan (or a plan of your choice), this devotional provides space to respond to your reading. For each of the 90 days, a two-page spread provides daily devotionals direction. On the left page, a key verse directs your thoughts. A half page is provided for recording a verse that “touched my heart.” On the right, record how God spoke: a promise, a warning, a command, an encouragement or wisdom to understand. Then, end the devotional time with a prayer, the day’s focus and plans. Each page has small, detailed drawings to color. As you color, meditate and pray on the day’s passage. Periodically, pages are placed to record four ways to bless, four ways to praise God, etc. A simple, beautiful way to be daily in the Word. 6.25x7.25”, 220 pgs, pb. ~ Ruth
