A delightful and extremely helpful resource! This dictionary includes words from twelve of Shakespeare’s most studied and performed plays (Henry V, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night).

This resource gives much more than definitions. The word entries include: definition (as used in play), part of speech, pronunciation, warning notes (difference in modern meaning), usage notes (word usage), theatre notes (the cultural background), citation (which play and character used this word), related words, and cross references. There are illustrated segments on related topics – armor, swords/daggers, clothing, hats, animals, colors, occupations, ships, recreation, music, and cosmos (constellations and horoscope), and a map of Shakespeare’s Europe. The binding is flexible and slick/glossy with slightly over-the-page-edge extensions. 352 pgs, pb. ~ Janice

William Shakespeare (1564-1616) is acknowledged as the greatest dramatist of all time. He excels in plot, poetry, and wit, and his talent encompasses the great tragedies of Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth, as well as the moving history plays and the comedies such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, and As You Like It with their magical combination of humor, ribaldry and tenderness. This volume is a reprint of the highly regarded Shakespeare Head Press edition, and it presents all the plays in the chronological order - as far as may be ascertained - in which they were written. It also includes Shakespeare's sonnets and his longer poems, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucree. A Wordsworth Classic.

Fast and fun, this two-player strategy game plays somewhat like Othello or Reversi. One player takes the black disks, the other, the white. Players take turns placing disks on the hexagonal board, trying to trap and flip their opponent's disks. The object of the game is to construct a string of five disks of your color on the white hexagons on the board, one of which must be on the outside ring. Because of all of the directions impacted by each move the game requires a lot of reasoning and acute attentiveness. The advantage moves back and forth quickly and the most obvious moves are not always the best!

This reproducible workbook is an excellent tool for introducing your students to one of the greatest writers of all time. Students will gain insights into Shakespeare's life and work such as the influence of the Elizabethan age on his writing, his usage of language, his best-known dramas and sonnets, common Shakespearean themes, and his performances at the Globe Theatre. The first six pages of the book give background information on the era that Shakespeare wrote in and then quizzes students on the information using short-answer questions, true or false exercises, a crossword puzzle, and more. The majority of the worksheets then cover Shakespeare's most popular works, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, The Tempest, Sonnet 18, and Sonnet 29. A wide variety of activities (matching, short-answer, completing puzzles, and writing ads, letters, and scripts) encourages students to focus on plot, characters, themes, and language. A few worksheets are provided for each of the plays mentioned. The plays are not included in the workbook, but students will have to read them to be able to answer all the questions thoroughly. This is a great workbook to help teachers evaluate how well students understand Shakespeare. An answer key is included. 28 pages, pb. ~ Rachel
