This is a fun book and CD combination to help students memorize their multiplication tables and have fun singing in the process. The CD includes twelve fun tunes that are each sung in a different style. There's a tango, a march, pop-reggae, bluegrass, rock, waltz, a sea chantey, country-western, rhythm and blues, jazz, a rap, and calypso. Though the songs definitely have a beat and there are drums and other instruments involved in a few of the songs, none of the music is exceptionally hard. The song lyrics aren't merely just numbers being multiplied, like many multiplication songs. Each song includes a fun story or encouragement about learning that goes with the style of music, then of course some multiplying of numbers. Songs focus on multiplying by one, counting in twos, counting by threes, multiplying by fours up to 40, counting by fives up to 50, counting by sixes up to 60, multiplying by sevens up to 63, and multiplying by eights up to 88. One song teaches the trick about how to multiply nines, while another jazz song points out that something times nothing is nothing at all. A special song is given to the "hardest" multiplication fact (8 x 7 = 56), and a calypso celebration sings of the joys of multiplication and includes random multiplication of numbers. Overall, this is a very fun CD to listen to, and children will memorize their time tables effortlessly as they sing along. The accompanying book includes lyrics to all the songs, suggestions for each song, and a few reproducible handouts like a hundred number chart for use during certain songs. ~ Rachel

Flash cards are always helpful for remembering math facts, but those usually require a partner and a specific deck. This game is essentially for this kind of practice, but without requiring others. Players go through a storyline, playing challenges such as collecting number bubbles to add up to a certain number, creating functional math operations, and many more to progress. One such game, where you must solve an operation while escaping from a rampaging robot (lest you be teleported back to the beginning) helps particularly reinforce the quick thinking simulated in flash cards. There are four levels of "Addition Subtraction" difficulties and four levels of "Multiplication Division" difficulties, which determine the variety of games and the types of challenges. This software is a fun way to reinforce math facts, especially for younger ages. Windows (up to Vista) & Mac. ~ Stephen

The bomb sets after 5 minutes so you can reuse the mold, but the bombs should be left to dry for about 4 days before using. Once you have the basic idea, you can be really creative. Mix colors to get unique shades, supplement scents with your own essential oils, pack the molds with multiple colors for fun effects and details, use your own cookie cutters for different shapes, or even hide little surprises inside the bombs to give as a gift! Everything you need is included: three 75g bags of colored baking soda (Pink-red, yellow, and blue), 4oz of citric acid, strawberry kiwi scented oil, 1.05 oz of glycerin, and five plastic molds (penguin, ice cream cone, dolphin, yay cloud, and sphere; sizes are between 1.5” and 3.5” long).

A teaching tool and a genuinely enjoyable math game in one beautiful package! The board consists of color-coded spaces from 1-101. Players try to reach 101 exactly with both pawns by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Each turn, the active player rolls 2 10-sided dice, then uses each rolled number (one at a time) to perform an operation on the space their pawn is currently on. For example, if a player has 1 pawn on “14” and rolls a 7 and an 9, the player has 6 immediate options: subtract to 7 (14 – 7 = 7) or 5, add to 21 or 23, multiply to 98, or divide to 2.

And remember the color-coding I mentioned? It works for multiplication and division! The “14” space is half-orange, half-purple. The “7” space is all purple. So, the player adds the colors together and looks for the space with 2 purple parts and 1 orange part – “98!” Likewise, if the player chose to divide “14” by “7”, they would simply subtract the “purple” color and look for the all-orange space. This provides a handy shortcut for those learning or reinforcing multiplication & division. Adding a final twist are “Action” and “Keeper” cards – when a pawn ends on a prime number above 10, they draw a card. Action cards are played immediately and allow players to switch pawns, roll again, or more. Keeper cards can be played any time during a player’s turn with beneficial actions or to harm their opponent. The suggested age is 10+, but the only requirement to play is basic math skills. For 2-4 players. 45-minute playtime.

Winner of numerous awards, including the 2017 National Parenting Projects Award and Tillywig Toy Brain Child Award, and many others!

Add city walls and knights for defense, then improve the trade, politics and science of your cities. Three new commodities are produced in the cities to make it into a metropolis. Progress cards replace development cards; these may be played on the turn drawn and multiple cards may be played on one turn. Become familiar with the Greek gods and practice mental math while playing this strategic card game. Each player is dealt four cards that will have either a number or a Greek god on them. Players take turns playing a card on "Mount Olympus" and add it to the previous total number. If a number is played by another player that matches a number in your hand, you can do a "same number sneak" playing that card and skip other players that would have been next. Greek god cards have powers such as playing Aphrodite and rounding the total to the nearest multiple of 0 or Ares sending the Mount Olympus total to 50. Throughout the game, take control of Zeus by getting to a total of a multiple of 10 (10, 20, 30…), playing a Greek God that says to steal Zeus, or doing a same number sneak. Get to 100 points while holding on to Zeus and win that round, earning a letter of Zeus. Win 4 rounds to spell out Z-E-U-S to win the game.

This isn't your grandma's embroidery sampler! Learn to stitch adorable, personalized pieces that fit in mini embroidery hoop pendants. Follow the simple directions in the 48 page, full color book to transfer a design onto one of the 10 squares of fabric, fit it in the pocket-sized plastic embroidery hoop, then stitch your design with the two needles and 8 colors of embroidery floss. When you're done, snap it into one of the three reusable plastic frames, then hang it on the ball-chain necklace. It was a little tricky to trim the fabric after it was in the frame, so a pair of very sharp, very tiny scissors (like nail scissors) would be helpful to have, and the hoops could easily be super-glued together if you wanted to make your design permanent. Sure to be a hit with your crafty teen, and the multiple hoops mean they could be shared between siblings! – Laura
