Encourage your beginning readers with this fun and fast-paced game! Each player receives a card with blank spaces for letter tiles. The rest of the letters for each word are printed on the card. The Zingo!® Zinger dispenses random double-sided number tiles. If it gives out a letter that is needed for one of your words, grab it and place it on your game card. For example, your card may have "B-U-__" and if the Zinger spits out a "G" tile, you can place it on your card to create the word "BUG." Each card contains six words; the first player to fill their card wins. 2 levels of play for 2-6 players. CHOKING HAZARD (1). Not <3yrs.

Practice reading sight words with this variation of Bingo. The dealer slides the Zingo! Zinger to reveal two sight word tiles. If one of the tiles matches a word on a player's card the player calls out the word and places the tile over the word on the card. Play continues until all 9 spaces are filled or a specified pattern is created. Game cards are double sided for two levels of game play. Game includes 72 sight word tiles (24 sight words each used 3 times), 6 double-sided cards, and the Zingo! Zinger. A great way to build reading skills through fun repetition.

Now there is a Bananagrams Game for the younger crowd. This set comes in a green canvas banana pouch that zips shut. There are 80 letter tiles, 13 combination letter tiles, and instruction sheet. Letter tiles have a nice feel to them, the right weight, raised lowercase letters, and a raised baseline so children know which is the bottom. Letters are white on a colored background, vowels are yellow, and letters that are similar (b/d, p/q, m/w) are in different colors to prevent confusion. Combination letter tiles are vowel teams (yellow), word families (vowel in yellow, consonant in blue or red), and digraphs (red). To play the game (1-4 players): 1) Lay all the letter tiles facedown in the center of the table; 2) All players take 15 single-letter tiles; 3) Everyone turns their tiles faceup and races to arrange them in their own word grid; 4) The first one to use all their tiles wins. The tiles can be used to play other games with younger learners – spell your name, abc’s in order, letter match, and more. “Peel” your banana and get started with some “Bananalicious” letter fun! 1CHOKING HAZARD (1). A tactile BINGO game to practice identifying beginning, medial or final sounds in one-syllable (CVC) words. Components are 36 real-life objects representing the BINGO words, 4 laminated BINGO cards, a laminated phonics answer card, and 45 1" x 1.25" plastic letter tiles (consonants in black, vowels in red). Players start with a bingo card and fill each of the blank spaces with an object such as a log, nut, hat or bib. Players select a tile and say the name and the sound of the letter. Each player finds an object that either begins or ends with a consonant or contains the vowel sound. Objects are pictured and spelled on the answer card, helping players correct their answers. A player getting three blank spaces in a row wins, and players can exchange their objects to play another game. Four game variations; objects may vary. For 2-4 players. ~ Ruth

Looking for a good, single person game to keep your student occupied? This game (or is it a puzzle?) is up to the challenge. Starting with a set-up card, you place letter tiles to match either a 3x3, 4x3, or 4x4 puzzle. Then reorder them to make words across and down in all directions. Start as a Beginner and end up as a Pro with Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert levels in between. The 45 letter tiles are plastic (¾" x ¾" and ¼" thick) but have a nice, almost-like-wood feel to them. There are 40 puzzle set-up cards, color-coded as to difficulty. A small booklet provides answers. For ages 8 and up. If you whiz your way through the provided cards, you could take the game to a whole new level by designing your own puzzles (i.e. work backwards: set up the crosswords, then scramble and have your opponent unscramble). ~ Janice

This strategy game utilizes a unique game board design which challenges players to group their playing tiles together. Tiles consist of letters, numbers, and shapes. Letter tiles can only be played in the corresponding row, number tiles can only be played in the corresponding column, and shape tiles can only be played on specific sections of the board. Each turn consists of playing one of your five visible tiles on an empty board space or playing it on a space occupied by another player (thereby capturing his piece), then drawing a replacement tile. The goal is to end up with the fewest contiguous groups of your tiles plus the fewest captured tiles of any one opponent. Players can pursue aggressive or non-confrontational strategies and still be competitive.

With four young children in the house and wanting to encourage learning opportunities, we, of course, have a ton of magnetic letters covering every square inch of surface on our refrigerator. Okay, so maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's mostly true! The older two like to spell out their names or other words while the younger two just throw the magnets all over the kitchen floor. The older girls can never find the letters they need, and it always looks cluttered. This handy-dandy little tray could solve all our problems! It measures 13.5" x 8.5," is 1 1/3" deep and is divided into thirty 1-1/2" x 2" compartments with two slightly smaller compartments in addition. You can sort all your letters into their own compartments for easy storage and locating! Of course, you wouldn't have to limit yourself to storing alphabet tiles or letter sets - this clear plastic container would work for storing a myriad of small objects. And don't worry, there is a pushtight lid! ~ Megan

From Plan Toys, this versatile letter tile set will help young children develop fundamental skills in letter recognition, phonics, vocabulary and reading. Double-sided square tiles measure 2" x 2", with a colorful, indented capital letter on one side and an image that corresponds to the letter on the flip side. Young children can trace the indented letters with their fingers to develop motor skills, letter recognition and writing skills. As children grow, use the letter side of the tiles to teach letter sounds and reading. A "green" product, the smooth, wood tiles are using a chemical-free, kiln-dried process, using water-based dyes and non-formaldehyde glue. Easily stored in sturdy cardboard box. ~ Deanne
