This is a book from a well-known author of educational activity books – Dinah Zike. Based around the idea of foldables – 3-D interactive graphic organizers - she has outlined all kinds of ways to incorporate hands-on activities into your social studies program. In case you aren't yet familiar with foldables, the first section of this three-part book is an introduction to what foldables are and the why and how to use them. The second part teaches how to make foldables, with instructions for one, two, three, and four-part folds, as well as foldables with any number of parts and foldable projects. Section three has 77 ideas for different foldable activities in three categories: General Social Studies, United States History Topics, and World History Topics. The book is well illustrated, with lots of diagrams of the right folds and cuts to make. At the end of the folding instructions section are several pages of visuals and graphics to be copied and used with the foldables. These hands-on projects would work equally well in a homeschool or classroom setting. 136 pgs, pb. ~ Zach

Written for slightly older students, the format of Volume 4 is slightly different. This volume contains 15 lengthier unit studies that can be stretched to two weeks per book. Christian content is incorporated into Vol. 4 through related 'Christian Character and Bible Study Lessons.' FIAR Cookbook lessons are also provided for each unit, as are the laminatd story disks. So while this volume seems pricey compared to the rest, it's also more than twice the size of the other volumes and includes more additional content that you don't get packaged with Vol. 1-3. All volumes are spiral-bound with sturdy laminated covers.

This book offers a clever method of introducing young children to important events in world history. Filled with over 100 stickers featuring objects, people, and scenes representing these happenings, your child will travel the world and briefly learn about such events as the construction of the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. The stickers are numbered, allowing for your child to easily locate the correct map to which they belong. Maps are divided into the following regions: Africa, Asia, North and Central America, South America, The Middle East, Australasia, Europe (Western), and Europe (Eastern). Although this book is not designed to provide an overly detailed account of the history of the world, it does serve to familiarize young learners to some of the more notable historical events. Please note: one of the events highlighted does pertain to Charles Darwin and his contribution to the idea of evolution. 24 pgs, pb. ~ Enh

This book states that "studying is an art that has to be learned, practiced, and refined." This is particularly true at the college level. Larger classroom settings, less one-on-one interaction with the teacher, and the lecture style of teaching are just some of the adjustments students may need to become accustomed to. This book recognizes that students prefer varying learning styles and that different study techniques may be necessary for different subjects. The suggested study techniques are just that, suggestions. You need not try all the methods covered, simply select the ones that apply to you. Recommended techniques on how to study are provided for lecture classes (such as history, sociology, psychology, etc) as well as science, math, and foreign language courses.

The complete title of this book is How to Study and Other Skills for Success in College. It is intended to provide insight on not only how to study at the college level but also focuses on other skills for college success. Detailed chapters cover such topics as getting the most out of the classroom experience, the art of reading, preparing for and taking examinations, writing papers, and getting help when needed. Information on what to expect at college in terms of living arrangements, academic demands, social pressures, parental pressures, and financial pressures is also included. Although this book was not specifically written with home schoolers in mind, the advice is pertinent for all who seek this level of education. Enh
