Filling a niche between our small and standard-sized globes is this handy globe that measures 6" in diameter. It's a colorful political globe with oceans shown in light blue and readable labels. Countries, bodies of water, continents, and many large cities are labeled. In general, individual states or provinces are not labeled. The durable plastic globe is supported on a black plastic stand which allows the globe to spin. This globe is great if you're looking for something in between smaller desk globes and larger standard globes. ~ Rachel

This bank globe displays the complete, scaled political borders and boundaries of the world, and it keeps your money safe! The plastic bank is about 5" wide by 7" tall on a transparent base. Minor assembly is required. This bank would make a great gift or serve well as a special encouragement for children to give some of their own money to international missionaries and the global poor. ~ Rachel D.

When you think Shakespeare, you think plays. When you read Shakespeare, you read plays. When you memorize Shakespeare, you memorize plays. When you dream Shakespeare… well, actually, I hope you don't dream Shakespeare - but I do hope you have an interest in exploring the history of such an influential man. Author Aliki has done a marvelous job in this book for young people. Written as a five-act play itself, the first four acts give us the run-down of Shakespeare's life, from his birth and childhood to London, the queen, the theatre, the plays and poems, the Globe, and the other major points of his life. The fifth act is about a man named Sam Wanamaker and his dream to reconstruct the Globe theatre. It tells how they did this on the original site, using authentic materials and construction methods. The book also includes a list of Shakespeare's works, a chronology of his life, words and expressions he invented, and places to see when visiting Shakespearean sites. It is a colorful, well illustrated, 48-page soft cover book that will hold your interest right to the end. ~ Zach

How do you get a student to interact with geography without getting on a plane? Make a game of catch-the-planet! There are a lot of games you can play with an inflatable globe. Toss it around and have the catcher answer a question about what is under their right thumb for example. Which hemisphere is it in? What are the coordinates? Identify the continent or ocean. So, when you have a blank white globe with black outlines, you have just upped the ante! Now the student has to identify or answer a question without seeing the names on the globe. Wouldn't that be a fun game of catch? Identify the nearest country to your left pointer finger, and then write it on with a wet-erase marker (not included)! Keep tossing until the entire continent, or whole globe, is labeled! Use for continents, countries, physical features, etc. More fun than plain old blank paper maps! Great for your kinesthetic, hands-on learners or wiggly kiddos. 24" diameter, ~ Sara

Make learning geography fun with this large inflatable globe that is great to use in a variety of activities. The globe is made from vinyl plastic so after it's inflated, it becomes a durable ball that's great to throw around. The globe is 27" in diameter and the oceans are clear so the globe is basically see-through. The different continents are shown in different bold colors, but the individual borders of countries/states are not shown. There are latitude and longitude lines on the globe, but absolutely nothing in labeled. Luckily, you can use standard wet-erase markers (not included) to label the globe as you see fit and then clean it off with a damp cloth and start over again! A hook and string are included so it's possible to hang the globe from the ceiling and a repair kit makes it easy to fix leaks in the globe (which are hard to come by). A small sheet of activity ideas is included. ~ Rachel

Learning new things is easier for young students when tied in to a common theme. That's why unit studies are so popular and successful. So what about Galloping the Globe? It's a unit study centered around geography. It encourages a detailed look at a selection of countries from the six populated continents as well as the North and South Poles and Christmas around the world. Using the countries being studied geographically as the basic platform, the authors have included ideas and references, projects and activities for integrating Bible, people/history, science, literature, vocabulary, internet sources, maps & flags, cooking, music/art, games, puzzles, and crafts into the curriculum. An aspect to this unit study which is similar to the Trail Guide to… series is the student notebook approach, where the child will actually produce a notebook full of art projects, reports, biographies, geographic dictionary pages, and much more. This is intended to be something they can show to other people, reinforcing and reviewing what they have learned as they explain various facts to friends and family. This is a fairly flexible course, with a full study of every topic listed taking between two and three years to complete. You can also pick and choose projects to simply make this a year long course. While geography is the main focus of this unit study, it does a good job of including the resources needed to study the other subjects, too. Answers are included and the consumable work pages are reproducible (and are also now found on the included CD-ROM in PDF format, which makes it even easier to use with multiple children). There are several recommended resources which are used multiple times throughout the course. If you are interested in purchasing these, please see below. Items without prices are those that we do not currently carry. The resource list has been recently revised to accommodate for items that were going out of print, and several new resources have been added. This is the newest version, revised in 2010 with a CD-ROM of printable forms, activity sheets, maps and flags. CD is Win/Mac compatible; requires Adobe Reader (a free download). 266 pgs, pb. ~ Zach

I've seen the cute make-your-own snow globes where you insert a photo, but this kit has so much for you to create! All supplies are included to make 2 globes. You begin with polymer clay in a rainbow of 10 colors. There are lots of tips for blending colors and making layers. Follow the directions to get the right size, but you can make whatever little sculpture your heart desires: a critter, a cupcake, a snowman, etc. using the sculpting tool & your hands. Bake the object & let it cool. Then use glue dots to stick it to the bottom piece (1 blue/1 green.) Add glitter & water to the dome, insert the plastic ring, and screw the 2 parts together. Voila! Finished products will be about 3.5" high, about 4" in diameter. You could use a paint pen (not included) to sign & date the base, or write a message and give it as a gift for someone special! ~ Sara
