(description by publisher - stay tuned for our own!) Young learners learn best when activities last five to ten minutes, before they drift off-task. The 10 Minutes a Day series takes this research to heart, providing quick math exercises for children — perfect for those time-to-fill moments at home, and based on one of the best and most effective learning strategies: little and often. Each book includes a ten-minute timer, beat the clock exercises, and easily photocopied pages, as well as tips, guidance, and answers for parents. In order to align with the Common Core State Standards, in 10 Minutes a Day: Math Fourth Grade children can develop an understanding of multi-digit multiplication, addition and subtraction of fractions with common denominators, understand concepts of angles, solve word problems, and more to build math skills.

Lena can recite the Scriptures by heart. Hoping to make her beloved papa proud of her and to make her white classmates notice her "Magic Mind" instead of her black skin, Lena vows to win the Bible-quoting contest, but winning does not bring Lena what she expects. Instead of honor, violence and death erupt and strike the one she loves most dearly. Lena, who has believed in vengeance, must now learn how to forgive. "A many-layered book. Ouida Sebestyen has wrapped story in poetry, wrapped me with it, too, caught me and held me, made me feel." - Cynthia King, The New York Times.

The best books written to entertain young children have to contain text that is somewhat interactive, an interesting storyline, and a problem situation that most children can identify. This book must have had all the ingredients, because it was one of our absolute favorites when we were very young. Throughout the book, Grover (of Sesame Street fame) continues to panic because the title suggests that there is going to be a monster waiting for him at the end of the book. He attempts various constructions to halt the "page-turning" that will inevitably bring the monster closer, and as the pages are turned, the book turns into a bigger and bigger mess. Of course, the end is a surprise for kids, and continues to delight them every time the story is read. If you don't have this Little Golden Book already, I highly recommend it - may yours become as dog-eared as ours! - Jess

In this third book in the "Wonders of Creation" series, Dr. Morris explains the structure of the earth we live on and presents evidence and theories of rock and landform formation from a young-earth viewpoint. He includes interesting findings from Mt. St. Helens and other recent catastrophic events, discusses various methods of dating the earth, and presents possible scenarios for Creation and the Flood that fit with a literal interpretation of the Biblical account. The well illustrated and easy to read pages make this a good introduction for the younger student or for anyone who has not been exposed to an alternative to the "millions of years" of most geology texts. Grades 5 and up. ~ Reprinted from Christian Home Educators Curriculum Manuals with permission of Cathy Duffy, Grove Publishing.

The corresponding study guide would be a good tool for small group study and homeschool. Each chapter includes corresponding pages from the book, scripture passages, and questions to answer. There is also a list of vocabulary words to define and suggested activities for each chapter. You can start your own rock collection, make a fossil, and study erosion. This 44-page study guide is not reproducible. An answer key is included. 5" x 8", softcover. ~ Donna

Five subjects conveniently bound into one colossal, full color workbook. Subjects (English, reading comprehension, writing, reading skills [including spelling/vocabulary] and math) are divided into color-coded sections for easy identification. This series covers a great deal of material focusing, of course, on basic skills. These workbooks do not have the breadth or depth that separate programs for individual subjects would have. However, if you're after basic skills mastery in the primary grades, this is a viable, cost-effective option. Teaching suggestions and answer keys included. 540+ pages. ~ Anh

First published in 1906, this classic set in the Middle Ages tells the story of a monk, Brother Stephen, and his young color grinder, Gabriel. In the days before printing presses were common, monks would create books by hand, which were works of art in themselves. Brother Stephen and Gabriel work together to make a beautiful "hour book" as a wedding gift from King Louis of France to Lady Anne of Brittany. This story provides great insight into the bookmaking process and is enhanced with black and white period illustrations. By Evaleen Stein. 87 pgs, pb. ~ Lisa

ââ‚Å"Whatââ‚™s all the commotion? ANIMALS in motion!â₝ So begins the excitement as you flip open the front cover and see a horse, quite literally trotting across the page! This is definitely a fun book for young children, with colorful, simple text serving only to highlight the amazing, moving panes of animals on each page. Itââ‚™s full of action as dog streaks, cat pounces, rooster struts, butterfly flutters, monkey swings, turtles swim, and eagle flies. No wonder itââ‚™s been at the top of the bestseller list for so many weeks! Just turning the page sets each animal in motion. Iââ‚™m still not sure how they get so much movement with such a small amount of ââ‚Å"playâ₝ in the margin, but Iââ‚™m not about to tear the book apart to find out ââ‚" Iââ‚™d like to share this copy with the grandkids!

Amazing is a good adjective for this book. Incredible is another. Awesome works pretty well, too. Let me just say that I am long past third grade, but I could spend a few more hours lifting every flap, pulling every tab, reading every speech bubble, and turning pages to find another pop-up mountain or volcano. This book is so much fun to look through; every page is chock full of information presented in an inspiring, unique, and entertaining way. Covered is our place in space, sunshine, continents and oceans, rivers and mountains, countries, Europe, natural disasters, world distances and traveling times, and inhabitants. Another cool feature is the pop-up globe, made from stiff card, which is flat in the book but pops into a more-or-less round globe - it's really quite something! It is attached to the book by an elastic cord, so it won't get lost either. Learning geography can be a lot of fun, especially when kids are enjoying themselves - and they really can't do anything but that when they open this hardcover book. ~ Zach

Here we have been selling this book for a year, and I never looked at it or realized just how cool it was until now! I love this book (I guess that is why the grade level says "through adult!); it is just about the coolest thing since buttered bread. Maybe even better than that if you're a horse lover like myself. The basics of horse care and riding are all covered, divided into topics such as Grooming, Feeding, Mucking, Safety, Ground Work, Tacking Up, and Riding. Almost every section has a two-page spread with a lot of information, how-to's, and tips. And for all those horse lovers out there that don't have a real horse to practice on, they can do almost everything with this book using the horse play section which guides the reader to do some activity with the stickers. There are four different scenes: in the barn, outside the barn, the tack room, and an outside pasture/arena. Four pages of stickers (which are actually not real stickers, they are more like colorforms - very re-usable, won't rip, go on and come off easily) are included in the middle, and believe me, they thought of everything! There are horses, riders facing both directions, saddles (English and Western), bridles, halters, lead ropes, currycombs, feed and water buckets, cowboy boots, feed, you name it! Because of their stick- and stack-ability, you can combine a bunch of stickers into one very fine creation. The possibilities truly are endless with this activity book! ~ Megan
