This coloring book by Usborne presents the national flag of every independent country in the world for you to color. The flags are grouped according to their continent of origin, and helpful maps of each continent are also included which enable readers to see the location of each nation. Several blank flags are featured on each page, with full-color representations along the outside edges for reference.  Alongside each blank flag is a short explanation detailing its particular symbols or colors; these references do not often include the date when a particular flag was adopted. The value of this resource goes way beyond the fact that it can be used as a coloring book. 48 pgs, pb. ~ Mike

Measuring 28" x 22", this large, glossy chart features full-color images of 194 world flags from the six populated continents. Flags are labeled and presented alphabetically under the appropriate continent heading, with the following numerical breakdown: 53 flags from Africa, 43 flags from Europe, 49 flags from Asia, 12 flags from South America, 14 flags from Oceania, and 23 flags from North America. The back of the chart contains several black-and-white reproducible activities: a blank flag so students can design their own, plus ideas for teachers to implement that challenge students to analyze information found on the chart (e.g. flag scavenger hunt, creating flag graphs, and "What Country Am I?" game). ~ Lisa

Learn geography with stickers! This sticker book has over 300 world flag stickers representing countries from all over the globe. The book contains large physical maps of Europe; Asia; Southeast Asia, Australia, and Oceania; North America; the Caribbean; South America; Northern Africa; and Southern Africa. Only countries and major bodies of water are labeled, so there is plenty of room to place the stickers. On the sticker pages, the flags are grouped by continent and countries are labeled below (not on) the flags. Each world flag has two stickers: one larger sticker measuring approx ¾", and an identical smaller sticker measuring about ½". These are reusable stickers; if you are careful, you can use the stickers more than once before they lose their stickiness. Test your world geography knowledge by placing these next to the right country. Use them in arts and crafts projects. Or simply decorate folders, backpacks, and other items for an international flair! ~ Lisa

While this atlas has a fairly unassuming look to it, and a price-point to match, it actually contains a stunning array of information. At 112 pages, you might just get more for your money out of this atlas than from most. A helpful highlighted tab section printed across the top of each open spread tells you exactly what you are looking at. The first tab, of course (after the table of contents), is how to use the atlas; the next tab contains the legend/projection/scale. Then comes latitude and longitude, map types, the solar system map, the world physical map, the world political map, the world's ocean floors, earth dynamics (earthquake and volcano zones), geographic features (the only section I found that refers to "millions of years"), climate, vegetation/land cover, environmental issues, population, population issues, languages/literacy/religions, land use/GDP/employment, mining/energy, information sharing, and transportation. The continent section spends the most time on North America, with maps detailing the following: political, physical, population, land use and resources, climate, and vegetation. The US is looked at in detail through the following: state flags, physical and political maps and facts, climate, vegetation, land use, energy and minerals, transportation, population, and income. Canada and Mexico both have close-ups showing political and physical country maps, with flags and crests. The other continents have the following maps: political, physical, population, GDP, land use, climate, vegetation, and environmental issues. This atlas gives you a really thorough overview of the world using thematic, political, and physical maps and deals with the world mostly at the continental level. The only regions that are looked at more closely are the US, Canada, and Mexico. A very colorful, easy-to-use resource. – Zach

This atlas from Rand McNally bridges the gap between simpler atlases geared to younger students and adult reference-only atlases. Like its adult cousins, this atlas is packed full of colorful maps and handy reference material; however, it also includes some student-friendly features such as charts/graphs, and narrative text. The atlas begins with an overview of map terminology. Next are sections on the earth/solar system, plate tectonics, climate, and other topics pertaining to physical geography. A twelve-page countries and flags of the world section presents basic information about 199 countries. Seven world maps are included: political, physical, climate, economic, population density, environments, and time zones. Detailed political and physical maps are provided for each of the seven continents and the U.S., plus thematic maps and select regional/country maps. Some examples of the continent thematic maps include: climate, population, environments/land use, or special topics specific to the continent (i.e. destruction of the rain forest in South America). Glossary and index included. 176 pgs, pb. Revisd in 2017. ~ Lisa

Tired of exposing your children to evolutionary "facts" while studying the countries of our world? Well, no more! Master Books, in partnership with My Father's World, provides this quality resource designed to enhance our study of the world from a Christian perspective.

Each of the seven continents is represented with highlights of more well-know nations. Information typically found in a quality atlas is included like landmarks, rivers, countries/capitals, flags, peoples, distinctive animals, biomes and the physical characteristic of the land. Unique to this atlas is the information on Christian history, people of faith and Christian traditions around the globe. For example, in the section on Saudia Arabia we read, "One of the first church buildings ever constructed has been found here by archaeologists. Built around the 4th century, it has come to be called the Jubail Church. Many congregations of Christians once thrived here until they were killed or driven out by the growth of Islam at the end of the first millennium…" The other distinctive feature you will appreciate is the lack of evolutionary timeline dating. Additional resources found in the back of the book include a glossary, definitions of government systems, holidays around the world, and detailed index. Vividly illustrated with photographs and full color maps, children will be eager to learn more about God's world. Oversized HC. 96 ps. ~Deanne

V.M. Hillyer, the first headmaster of Calvert School, spent many of his school years studying only American history. Believing that studying world history would broaden children's horizons and give them a better understanding of the world and history in general, he set about to write an understandable and comprehensive world history children could enjoy. A Child's History of the World functions to familiarize young children with some of the countless historical events and people of significance while reading like a good story. While many of the topics touched upon may not be the most important in overall world history, they are the most important that can be understood by a child. The subjects are covered in chronological order, from the beginning of the world (presented from a vague but secular viewpoint) through the end of the Cold War. This gives the child a linear view of world history that allows for the details to be filled in later. A Child's History of the World is a basal (basic, fundamental) reader and is not intended to be used as a supplementary reader. Recently revised, copyright 1997. 440 pgs, hc. 7.25" x 9.5". ~ Enh
