Although sometimes considered the 6th book in the series, some consider this to be the first as it recounts the creation of Narnia by Aslan, the Great Lion, and how all the Narnia stories began. Uncle Andrew's experiments send Polly and Digory to strange other worlds, but an encounter with the sinister Queen Jadis brings evil to the land of Narnia on the day of its creation.

I'm a C.S. Lewis fan and love the way he uses his intelligence and common sense to explain deep spiritual truths. This book is a collection of some of his most popular works, included unabridged in this one volume. Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Abolition of Man, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, Miracles, and A Grief Observed are all included. I know I'll be adding this book to my home collection! 746 pgs, pb. ~ Rachel

Many people admire C.S. Lewis and the entertaining and moving books he has written, but many don't know the story behind this powerful writer. In this autobiography, Lewis shares about his early life and how he became the man he did. His journey starts with a traditional Christian childhood in Belfast, continues through years of atheism, and returns him to a confident faith in Christ. Read about his early schooldays, his experiences during WWI, and his college life at Oxford. A great read that not only depicts Lewis' journey but also highlights some of the intellectual and psychological aspects of becoming a Christian. 292 pgs, pb.

C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity is perhaps one of the most notable modern expressions of Christian theology and mindset: for its influence, its deep digging and examination, its practical application and discussion of many facets of life. It is considered a “must read” for Christians. But it is a meaty tome with much to personally reflect on and discuss. This Critical Analysis Journal is designed to help you and your student digest its concepts and also help them wrestle with some controversial philosophical and cultural issues. The Journal recognizes that you will not agree with everything Lewis says, nor should you. Instead, use the journal as a way to discuss and flesh out the Christian perspective on a myriad of issues.

For each chapter of Lewis’ book, the Journal provides 10-16 questions for student response. The author recommends the student answer them personally but also use them in discussion. Questions vary in depth from pulling directly from the reading to application to introspection. Since the Journal is a book of questions, here are some examples to give you a taste of its diversity: What must happen before we are able to truly love our neighbor as ourselves? When you scrutinize wickedness, what does it turn out to be? What is one objection Lewis raised before he became a believer? In what ways do you think your ideas about love and marriage are influenced by media? A PDF digital Answer Key is available free; the journal provides download information. Note: this answer key is a guide; questions will sometimes solicit different answers. Non-consumable, spiral bound, 162 pp, sc. ~ Ruth

These twelve plays by Dorothy L. Sayers are a theatrical representation of the Four Gospels: Kings in Judaea, The King’s Herald, A Certain Nobleman, The Heirs to the Kingdom, The Bread of Heaven, The Feast of Tabernacles, The Light and the Life, Royal Progress, The King’s Supper, The Princes of This World, King of Sorrows, and The King Comes to His Own. Although portraying the life and acts of Jesus, the plays use modern English conveyed with literary style. A narrator character, named the “Evangelist” ties the scenes together, incorporating Scripture paraphrases. Originally produced for BBC Radio, these cycle plays have been reproduced here much the same as when first presented. Each play includes a list of characters, stage directions, and a “Notes” section describing an overview of the play’s style and how each character should be presented. Could be produced as Reader’s Theater or as a play--either each individually or as a 12-piece unit. Would be a great set of plays for a year-long co-op theater class. Could also be read devotionally during the Twelve Days of Christmas, or as part of Lent (as C.S. Lewis was in the habit of doing). Includes a 28-page introduction by the author. 6” x 9”, 327 pp, sc. ~ Ruth

Although no volume could contain all the writings of C.S. Lewis, this text brings together a broad array of his thoughts and defenses of the faith: 14 papers (arranged chronologically) written for publication either in periodicals or presented at various societies. Some, such as Religion: Reality or Substitute and Christianity and Culture were previously printed in other sources; others such as The Psalms and The Funeral of a Great Myth are printed here for the first time. This collection covers a broad scope, such as thoughts on church music, prayer, or the workings out of religion and its relationship with culture. Provides a fine scope of Lewis’ views on theology, compiled and edited by long-time friend Walter Hooper. 5.5” x 8”, 217 pp, sc. ~ Ruth

Downing, author of four award-winning books on C.S. Lewis, crafts this adventure. Tom and Laura aspire to solve a mystery and find treasure. Together they address issues of eternal consequences, involving Lewis and Tolkien in the process (Downing uses actual quotations and information from the authors’ writing).
