This book drew me in with the title and held me with its reality and encouragement. In the 19th century, women began to do more, serving in daring ways with noble purpose to achieve amazing things for God. The author blends information from personal memories and intimate friend accounts into narratives that bring the accounts of risk-taking, God emboldened women to life. Although you may not know their names, you or those around you have most definitely been affected by the lives and work of either Fanny Crosby, Emeline Dryer, Nancy McCormick, Sarah Dunn Clarke, Amanda Smith, Virginia Asher, Evangeline Booth or Mary McCleod Bethune. Driven by a desire to serve God, these women can still inspire us to live lives that are timeless, godly fierce, persistent and faithful. These are women who changed history. You’ll be drawn in and inspired by how God used ordinary lives in amazing ways. Also included are 16 pages of period photos, a discussion question section with 3 questions for each chapter, acknowledgements and notes. This Moody Press book is 5 ¼” x 7 ½”, 206 pp and sc. ~ Ruth

The explorers from the Forbidden Island and Forbidden Desert are in for a truly electrifying experience! Played in the same style as the aforementioned games, Forbidden Sky takes players to a mysterious floating platform as an electrical storm rages around them. Each turn, players move and reveal a “platform tile” to an adjacent space. These tiles have a variety of symbols on them: circuits, capacitors, lightning rods. Additionally, gears, teleporters, wind shelters, and Faraday Cages provide other benefits to players located on that tile. After each player takes his or her turn, they reveal Storm Cards. These cards inflict a variety of dangerous effects on players, such as pushing them across the map (and damaging their rope in the process), causing lightning to strike (injuring players), changing wind direction, and intensifying the ever-deadly storm.

The goal is to find the Launch Pad and escape by connecting the Rocket to lightning rods and capacitors. Lightning rods and capacitors are built by connecting like-symbols on tiles; they can then be attached to the launch pad via “wires” forming a complete circuit from one half of the launch pad – through the lightning rods and capacitors – to the other half of the Launch Pad. When this circuit is complete, the Rocket lights up. But remember: all players must be on the launch pad when the Rocket lifts off, or at least one explorer will be eating lightning for breakfast! Additionally, if a player dies, breaks their rope, or the storm becomes too intense, all players lose. If you like the cooperative challenge of the other games in the Forbidden series, don’t miss out on this exciting entry! For 2-5 players. ~ 60-minute playtime.

This 75-page book tells a story of childhood bravery during the German occupation of France during WWII. Ten Jewish children are brought to a school where twenty other children are staying during the war. They forge friendships and play games that involve finding ways of hiding the Jewish children. When Nazis come to search the school, the games end and the children have to band together to protect themselves and their friends. This wonderful story of courage and loyalty includes several black and white illustrations. ~ Rachel S.

Tabitha is the daughter of a shepherd who is taking his family to his birthplace. Tabitha is a curious and courageous young girl who often finds it difficult to be docile and "know her place" as girls were expected to do in Biblical times. As Tabitha travels with her family, she watches as the Romans take her father prisoner, spends time with Zechariah and Elizabeth, helps Mary and Joseph just before Christ's birth, and ends her travels at the stable in Bethlehem. Each chapter begins with instructions to light a specific candle(s) on your Advent Wreath, followed by the text of the story. The end of each chapter contains a devotional with a Bible verse and discussion questions that pertain to themes or events from the chapter. A total of twenty-eight devotions are included. By Arnold Ytreeide. 159 pgs, pb. ~ Lisa
