This deck of cards lets kids play fun games that also teach the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percents. The deck consists of 61 standard-sized cards: 20 common fractions (from 9/10 to 1/20), the corresponding decimal and percent equivalents, and one Old Buffalo Card. A conversion chart and a few ideas for games using the cards are also included. Using the deck, you can play many standard card games like War, Old Maid and Crazy 8's, but players will have to figure out the value of the various fraction, decimal, and percent cards they have in order to play. Whether used as a math supplement or just to provide a twist to your normal card-playing, this game will provide lots of fun for your entire family. ~ Rachel

Small, durable, informative, and handy, this guide has the essential information you'll need while working in the lab. It comes picturing a chart of the Periodic Table of Elements that is large enough to read and understand clearly. Flip over to the inside and find various charts of chemistry must-knows. Charts include metric conversions, common ions, physical constants, common chemical reagents and molar mass, common acids, common bases, organic solvents, and properties of inorganic salts, air and water. Due to its smaller size not every area of the subject can be covered. Laminated, measures 4 x 6. ~ Tasha

I've never been strong in math but this handy reference book makes things simpler with concise descriptions of terms and clear tables, charts, and diagrams to help students understand. About half the book is an actual dictionary, with over 600 terms (from abacus to zero) that are defined and accompanied by a graphic, diagram, or example. Want to know what standard deviation means? Need to figure out what an isosceles trapezoid looks like? Forget which one's the y-intercept? Just consult this book and all your questions will be answered! The second half of the book includes even more useful information and references such as a multiplication table, conversion tables, clarification of formulas, explanations of symbols, and descriptions of a variety of math concepts. Keep this book in reach during your math studies as a great reference and aid! 130 pgs, pb. ~ Rachel

Simple Gifts is a teaching guide for anyone who works with children and especially helpful for home schooling as a checklist-driven method for organizing and simplifying the daily effort. The guide could be called "a crash course in home schooling" or "an executive summary for busy teachers" or "a way to make home schooling simple and organized." The author took the overwhelming body of research and advice about education and distilled that down to essential principles and activities, thus giving the home schooling parent peace of mind that all fundamental skills are being developed. It is written in a conversational style but is succinct, respecting the valuable time of its busy readers. Its main purpose is to help parents and other teachers re-evaluate their goals, organize, simplify their lives, and gain peace of mind that they are working efficiently. The guide provides three key checklists for the teacher that address not only academic instruction, but also character education and the fostering of healthy habits. These checklists can serve as a daily organizer/planner for the teacher and student, no matter which curriculum is being studied, no matter which books are being read. The checklists help everyone rest assured that they are covering "all the bases." The guide also addresses the personal qualities and habits of the teacher that lead to success.

This guide covers all learning styles, is adaptable for all ages, abilities, and subjects, can be used in any educational setting, incorporates learning theory, and serves as a reminder to teach with variety. The guide also provides a set of graphic organizers, sample transcripts, grade records, progress charts, a history timeline, a vocabulary card template, a phonics phoneme chart for review or remedial work, a list of recommended materials, and lists of questions for problem solving, writing, and taking tests, all of which may be photocopied by the purchaser for instructional use. ~ Caryl Schlicher/Author

As Christians, understanding the impact of other world religions is vital to our ability to reach out to a lost world with the gospel message. Whether you desire to recognize the influence of other religions in our multi-cultural society or want to prepare your young people to interact with diverse beliefs in the college or work environment, this book will equip you with the foundational knowledge imperative to understanding the biblical message and conflicting belief systems.

Divided into two sections, this book begins by explaining the six most influential stories of the world that rival the Christian story: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Daoism (Taoism), Judaism, and Islam. The chapters focus on six main aspects of each religion: the beginning of the story (what they believe about the creation of the world), historical origin, religious writings, beliefs, worship practices, and the point of contact-how Christians can engage followers in conversation. The second section takes a deeper look at the Biblical response to other religions along with a survey of literature from Christian theologians today. Discussion questions and additional resources conclude each chapter. For readers who would like to gain a deeper understanding of the material, additional projects, essays and worldview questions are found in the appendix. This supplemental appendix gives families or Bible study groups an excellent way to engage students in learning to apply and evaluate the material. Other included appendices include online links to religious writings and a guide of helpful information if you would elect to visit a non-Christian worship service. While not a required part of this study, the author believes this experience better prepares us as Christians to share Christ's love. Helpful charts, a comprehensive glossary, and engaging personal stories make this a must-have resource for mission-minded families or for families who want to be able to have an impact in their own neighborhood. Mandarin Chinese is an intimidating language to learn, and materials that allow young beginners to simply "try it out" are few and far between. If you or one of your children is considering a serious study of Mandarin, but aren't sure you want to invest in a Rosetta Stone program yet, this little book and CD will provide you with a terrific introduction to Chinese characters, pinyin spellings of Chinese words (Chinese words written in our alphabet, like "māo"), and pronunciation of some basic Chinese words and phrases. For every word or phrase taught, you will find both the Chinese character(s) and the pinyin version. An audio CD is packaged inside the front cover, and every time you see a headphones symbol and a track number, you know you can turn to the CD to hear what you are reading. The first section of the book serves as a comprehensive introduction which includes general information about Mandarin Chinese, an explanation of pinyin, tables of initial and final Chinese sounds equated with similar sounds in English, the four "tones" of Mandarin, an explanation of Chinese characters, details on the strokes that make up the characters, memory tips to remember characters, and some very basic grammar pointers. The next eight chapters focus on teaching basic vocabulary, including greetings, Chinese names, words for family members, simple travel phrases, parts of the body, numbers 1-100, days of the week, names of months, years, seasons and weather words, transportation words and phrases, food-related vocabulary and phrases, tourism, and even some basic slang like "ok" and "bye-bye." Conversation Practice pages are scattered throughout the book, and offer the reader an opportunity to use the vocabulary they have learned in simple sentences which are also always located on the audio CD. The layout is very exciting, with plenty of full-color photos, graphics and colorful charts, and details on the history and culture of China keep the language study relevant and fascinating. There's really nothing to not like about this book. If you are a complete beginner and unsure if you can tackle learning Chinese, this is a great place to start. You will be amazed at the amount of content that has been squeezed into only 128 pages! - Jess
