Puzzles are fun, but if you’re looking for something a bit more exciting, check out this great fishing game. You may think it’s just a typical puzzle, with ten colorful sea creature puzzle pieces that you place into a fun ocean scene. However, the pieces have magnetic dots on them and you can use the magnetic fishing pole to “catch” the pieces and pull them from the ocean - and it’s just as much fun to try to return them to their habitat using the pole. The entire puzzle is made from durable wood and measures 9” x 12”. Believe me, this entertaining product provides fun for all ages.

Players get to be fishermen in this game, complete with a bunch of rubbery worms and fish markets waiting to buy your catch. Players use their worms to catch fish from the "ocean" and have three things they can do with the fish: put it in one of their boats, throw it back, or sell it to the appropriate market. Each fish is also capable of granting a wish. So what do you do with your fish? Placing it in your boat means that you can not use the wish, but can save the fish for a time when the market will give the best price. Throwing the fish back is the only way to use the wish, which is pictured on the card. There are many kinds of wishes: bonus money, spoilage, extra boats, special fish sales, or moving one of the "buyers" to a different market. When fishing, players can see the available wishes and choose strategically. Players can also sell a fish right away. There are 7 markets that will always buy a fish for $2, though the markets which have one or more of the "buyers" mentioned above increase your profit - so keep track of them. Players with the majority of fish in a market that becomes full will score even more bonus money. Players keep track of their money on the outside of the board; the player with the most money at the end wins. 2-5 players, with game duration of about 40 minutes.

Boggle is a classic word game that people have enjoyed for years. Basically, 25 letter cubes are randomly placed in a tray and players get 3 minutes to see how many words they can form with the letters shown. Players score for each unique word they find and the player with the highest score wins. This edition has a larger (5 x 5) playing grid, which puts nine more letters into play than standard Boggle so you have better chances of finding more and better words. There are also new "double letter" cubes (like "qu" being on one cube) to make forming words easier. Included in the game are 25 letter cubes, the playing grid with a dome cover, and a 3-minute sand timer. With each game lasting only 3 minutes, this is quick and fun to play at any time!

This uniquely challenging game is great for playing solo to build visual/spatial perception skills or for playing in a group to build those skills competitively! Up to four players each receive a square transparent "Doodle sheet," a dry erase marker, an eraser and a fish stencil. Players all look at a full-color, illustrated Quest Card, which details some sort of drawing challenge to complete, whether finding a path for a little fish to escape from the mouth of a big fish, drawing fish in open areas of the sea, or finishing a picture. Players look at the Quest Card, then complete the challenge on their clear Doodle Sheet. When all of the players have drawn the assignment, players take turns laying their Doodle sheet over the Quest card to see if they drew their fish or lines in the right places. Points are awarded based on how well each player's drawing fits with the Quest card. Two levels of challenges on the 18 double-sided Challenge cards make this game perfect for any age. I can only hope they come out with Quest Card expansions! – Jess

This neat little game introduces players to 44 different knots, then tests them on tying these as quickly and accurately as possible to win points. Each playing card in the deck features a different knot, its name and use, and a point value. As soon as a knot card is turned over, players race to be the first to tie the knot and then toss it in the center of the player's circle. If the knot is tied correctly, the player wins the card. If two players "tie" (no pun intended), then the card is replaced in the deck to be used later. The small game includes knot cards, a rule card, two lengths of nylon cord and two small wooden "posts" which is enough for two players. However, you can add more players by supplying more cord and some round sticks or blocks. Several additional cards explain the importance of knots, the strengths of different knots and the parts of a rope. Although knot-tying books abound, the competition, speed, and variety of knots in this game will definitely promote memorization of the knots for practical use - or for the next round of play! - Jess

Use the magnetic tile pieces to help some animals hide while others remain in the open. Asian animals like tigers, pandas, elephants, and monkeys are shown on both sides of the game board. The “day” side has four separated sections and the “night” side has one big grid for more difficult challenges. Each challenge requires players to allow only a certain number of each animal to be revealed; this is accomplished using the 4 double-sided jungle tiles. These tiles have square openings in various spots, allowing animals to be seen underneath the cutouts. Rotate and place all four tiles until you find the combination that results in “seeking” the correct total of each creature! Includes 80 challenges; game board serves as storage case.

Trout-nce your opponents in this simple word game! The game is composed of 10 wooden dice, a score pad, and a dice mat. One player rolls the dice and creates the highest scoring word they can. Letters are worth varying point values based on difficulty. The other player rolls the remaining dice and creates the best word they can (crossword style to the original word). Players take turns rolling the unused dice, and dice used in their previously played word, leaving only the last word on the mat, and making new words. Will you have the catch of the game? 2 players or teams; 10-20 minutes. ~ Megan

Winner of the 2017 Kinderspiel Des Jahres (Children's Game of the Year) award, this fast-paced game is all about physical dexterity... Or should I say, flick-sical dexterity? In Ice Cool, players become penguins in a school hallway, flicking their pieces to make them spin, roll, and hop through doorways and over walls. One player takes on the prestigious role of Hall Monitor. The rest of the players are bent on misbehaving: their collective goal is to nab fish in the hallways before lunchtime! These "Runners" must flick their penguins through doorways to collect fish while the Hall Monitor tries to intercept them. Once the Hall Monitor has caught each mischievous penguin once, or a penguin has succeeded in collecting all three of his color's fish, the round ends and the duty of Hall Monitor passes to another player. After everyone has been Hall Monitor once, the game ends and the player with the most fish wins! This fast-paced action game is excellent for all ages, possessing a light, comical feel that everyone can enjoy and participate in on even footing.

If you have 3 minutes, you have time to play Mad Dash - a lively game that challenges players to travel across America in just 3 minutes (timer included!). Winner of a prestigious Parents' Choice Gold Award, the game is intense, addictive, and sharpens geographic skills in a hurry! 2-4 players each unfold a colorful map, then play begins. A sand timer allows for just three minutes to form your state cards into a trail of "neighbors" (states that border each other). The more difficult the route, the higher your score - and there's a big bonus if you can go coast-to-coast. But hurry - time is running out! Each game also comes with State Secrets - a strategy game in which players earn "tricks" by playing the cards of the largest or most populous states. But you must be able to answer questions about cities and natural features of the U.S.A. Here's what Parent's Choice had to say: "As the open-book exam of all time, the game gets you to say and say again the names of states while tracing borders to see if they indeed connect. Zooming fun to play!"

This fast-paced vocabulary game is simple enough for the whole family to enjoy. Three hundred cards are included, with six word definitions on each card. Basically, you roll the die to see which definition clue to use, read the clue out loud (like "A flat moving part that sticks out from the body of a fish" or "A partially dried grape), and then the first player to blurt out the word (like FIN! or RAISIN!) moves ahead on the board. The first player to circle the game board wins. It's easy to play, but you'll be surprised how easy it is to get tongue-tied and forget common words. Great to use as a vocabulary builder for kids and a perfect addition to family game nights, this fun game includes 300 cards (with 1800 clues), a large colorful game board, 6 player pieces, and a die.

Prepare to be challenged with this seemly simple game of hand coordination, concentration, and patience! Picture a metal rod with three pendulums hanging in the middle, and three "u" shaped pieces of three different sizes around those, hanging from the same rod. Each pendulum and u-shaped piece can spin independently around the bar, or with other pieces, the trick is mastering that manipulation! With instructions and over 50 increasingly difficult challenges, swing your way to from spinning a single piece in one direction all the way to achieving the "Big Bang Slam", where all pieces spin in alternating opposite directions! A unique way to occupy busy hands and minds! ~ Deanne

What lives longer a toucan or a warthog? Like the Timeline games by the same company, your job is to place your cards correctly in relation to the cards already on the table. Each player is dealt four cards, with a beautiful illustration of an animal on the front, and the same illustration on the back along with three important details: the animal's size, weight, and lifespan.

In Dinosaurs, players are challenged to place cards by length or weight, so this deck is compatible with Animals if you are playing with one of those characteristics. Please note that this deck includes evolutionary content.

Players choose which of the three characteristics to play by, flip one card over in the playing area so the information is visible, and then take turns trying to place their cards on the right places around the ones on the table. Once you think you have your card placed correctly, turn it over to check if you were right. Correctly placed cards stay information side up, wrongly placed cards are discarded and players draw a new card. As you can tell, the more cards on the table, the harder it is to place new cards! The first player to run out of cards wins. Quick to learn and easy to play, you also can't help but learn some new facts! This is a great game to play with people of all ages with no big advantages to older players. We pulled this one out last time Grandma and Grandpa were here, and out of all three generations, our 7-yr old won! 2-8 people can play, rounds take about 15 minutes, and the 110 cards are packaged in a nice little tin. If you enjoy this one, try Cardline: Globetrotter for geography! Steph

Setting up camp on your dining table is as easy as unfolding the game board – it's the questions on the path to the camp that may challenge you. With simple game play that focuses more on outdoor education rather than on competition, your family will be able to jump right into this board game. Players start at the camp and must answer multiple choice questions as they wander through the wilderness path on the board. The question cards each contain four questions at different difficulty levels, with players selecting their level at the beginning of the game. Questions test a wide range of animal and nature knowledge for the entire family, and the upper level questions can definitely be a challenge. When we played, one time around the board made for a very quick game with two players, so you might want to go around a couple of times. For up to 8 players. - Zach
