Create your own long lasting, professional looking book! The IlluStory A+ kit contains non-toxic, washable markers, writing pages, instructions, hints, a story planner, and a postage paid envelope. Write your story, then illustrate it. When you're finished, mail it in (at no additional charge) for completion and production. They'll typeset and bind your book, returning a 7" x 9" hardcover book that even has a place for a dedication. The kit produces an 18 page book, and the author's bio can be placed on the back cover.

Authors have the choice of either creating their book by hand using the materials in the kit, or producing their book online using the company's website. Working online allows kids to upload photos or scanned images and use digital drawing tools and effects (like speech bubbles, pre-designed backgrounds and more). Designing online also allows them to place more text on each page (there are per-page word limits for hard copy bookmaking). Planning sheets, informational sheets on types of writing and quite a few "story web" graphic organizers flesh out the contents of IlluStory A+ and may be helpful to tie the project in with your current writing curriculum. Next step, the Library of Congress! - Megan

If you crossed a common, ordinary pocket microscope with a Swiss Army knife, you just might end up with the X-Scope. Truly the "Cadillac" of magnification tools, this handy little pocket-size 30x microscope also includes an 8x pull-out telescope, a 9x magnifying hand lens, a clock, a whistle, a compass and a flashlight! Ok, if you aren't bedazzled with all those extra features, you will definitely be impressed with the quality of magnification and the bright, sharp viewing provided by the LED bulb. Just flip the light switch, place the object you want to observe underneath, and look through the lens on the top. Compared to other pocket microscopes in our office, this one allowed us to see all those Asian beetles in our office in much more detail! Jess

A teaching tool and a genuinely enjoyable math game in one beautiful package! The board consists of color-coded spaces from 1-101. Players try to reach 101 exactly with both pawns by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Each turn, the active player rolls 2 10-sided dice, then uses each rolled number (one at a time) to perform an operation on the space their pawn is currently on. For example, if a player has 1 pawn on “14” and rolls a 7 and an 9, the player has 6 immediate options: subtract to 7 (14 – 7 = 7) or 5, add to 21 or 23, multiply to 98, or divide to 2.

And remember the color-coding I mentioned? It works for multiplication and division! The “14” space is half-orange, half-purple. The “7” space is all purple. So, the player adds the colors together and looks for the space with 2 purple parts and 1 orange part – “98!” Likewise, if the player chose to divide “14” by “7”, they would simply subtract the “purple” color and look for the all-orange space. This provides a handy shortcut for those learning or reinforcing multiplication & division. Adding a final twist are “Action” and “Keeper” cards – when a pawn ends on a prime number above 10, they draw a card. Action cards are played immediately and allow players to switch pawns, roll again, or more. Keeper cards can be played any time during a player’s turn with beneficial actions or to harm their opponent. The suggested age is 10+, but the only requirement to play is basic math skills. For 2-4 players. 45-minute playtime.

Winner of numerous awards, including the 2017 National Parenting Projects Award and Tillywig Toy Brain Child Award, and many others!

Named Party Game of the Year by Games Magazine, this hilarious trivia guessing game is truly fun for all - trivia buff or trivia phobe! To play, just lay out the football-field inspired mat, and each player receives two betting tokens, a dry-erase answer card, and a dry erase marker. Assign one player to be the Banker (to hand out chips), and one player to be the Question Reader. Each round, the Question Reader reads a trivia question, and then each player or team guesses at an answer and writes it on their answer card. Now, all 252 trivia questions has a numerical answer, such as How many miles long is the Mississippi River? so all players can guess at an answer. Answers are placed on the playing mat, from lowest to highest, and then players/teams place their two betting chips on the answers that they think are closest. In this case, if you had no idea how long the Mississippi River was, but youre playing with your brother whos a geography buff, you might bet on his answer. After everyone has placed their chips, the answer is revealed, and players who bet on the answer that is closest (without going over) receive additional chips. Then its on to the next round! Games are pretty short, consisting of 7 questions each, and the player/team with the most points at the end of the 7th round wins! We like this one because everyone plays at the same time, and everyone can enjoy it, regardless of knowledge or age! For 4-20 players; play duration is about 25 minutes.

How do you create 16 simple math games with 66 cards? Using tiny polka dots, of course! This unassuming deck comes in 6 “suits” of different colors representing numbers 0-10. Each suit represents these numbers differently: characters, 10-frames, domino rows, different-sized polka dots, etc. Each game is made from using these suits together or separately: for example, PowerDot (equivalent to War) is made by shuffling several decks together and dealing 11 cards to each player. Hungry Numbers is a simpler game which involves matching a “polka dot suit” card to the appropriate “character suit” (0-5), and Dot Tens is the same concept but uses different suits of dots 0-10. Each game reinforces a different numerical concept; PowerDot demonstrates correspondence and comparative operations, while the other two reinforce counting and matching. Other games range in complexity and teach different skill sets. And of course, the cards provide an excellent base for creating your own math (and even logic) games! For 1-6 players.

Winner of several awards, including Creating Child Magazine’s 2017 Product of the Year award and the Parent’s Choice Gold Award.

Become familiar with the Greek gods and practice mental math while playing this strategic card game. Each player is dealt four cards that will have either a number or a Greek god on them. Players take turns playing a card on "Mount Olympus" and add it to the previous total number. If a number is played by another player that matches a number in your hand, you can do a "same number sneak" playing that card and skip other players that would have been next. Greek god cards have powers such as playing Aphrodite and rounding the total to the nearest multiple of 0 or Ares sending the Mount Olympus total to 50. Throughout the game, take control of Zeus by getting to a total of a multiple of 10 (10, 20, 30…), playing a Greek God that says to steal Zeus, or doing a same number sneak. Get to 100 points while holding on to Zeus and win that round, earning a letter of Zeus. Win 4 rounds to spell out Z-E-U-S to win the game.

Picture this: you are being chased by a pack of rare carnivorous rabbits in a nature preserve in central Missouri. Hunting season is over, and the rabbits are a protected species. The nearest ranger station is a mile away. You only have 5 things with you: a ten-gallon drum of maple syrup, a magical flying dishtowel, a particle accelerator, a circus of trained mice, and one concerned parent. Which 3 will you use to engineer your escape?

This truly is a game of extreme storytelling! Each round the Judge draws 1 Situation card while players think about how to use exactly 3 of their Resource cards to solve the scenario. When everyone is ready, players begin telling their story in the most creative way possible, revealing the resources they use as they enter the story. When everyone is finished, the Judge declares 1 story the best, and the storyteller takes the card! The first player to win 3 rounds wins. If you’ve ever played Snake Oil or Pitch It, consider this their wackier counterpart! For 4-7 players.

If you’ve never heard of him, Alan Turing was the “father of modern computing” and played a pivotal role in developing machine computing as we know it. I think he would be proud to have his namesake attached to such a brilliant teaching tool! Part programming and part logic puzzle, the Turing Tumble begins as an unassuming peg-board with slots for falling marbles; think “Plinko machine.” The goal is to turn the board into a simple computer using six marble-carrying analog equivalents of digital machinery: Ramps (direct balls down the board – circuits), Crossovers (change the direction of balls – also circuits), Bits (can be turned “left” or “right” – represent 0 or 1), Interceptors (prevent a marble from releasing more marbles – a “STOP” command), and Gears / Gear Bits (store information by being pointed “right” or “left” – a sort of register). When one marble reaches the bottom, it triggers either a Blue (left) or Red (right) marble to fall. The key to programming the Turing Tumble is controlling where these marbles end up!

To accomplish this, a 60-puzzle activity book accompanies the board. Each puzzle is styled & illustrated as part of a simple computer program that needs solved: an Objective (“Let exactly 9 blue balls reach the end. Intercept the 10th.”), Required Output (a pattern of Blue and/or Red marbles), a Starting Setup (a clear picture of the parts which start on the board), and Available Parts (the parts you should use to accomplish the objective). The process begins with trial & error as kids figure out how each piece functions; but once they understand the correlation between “plastic pieces” and “programmable puzzle,” it becomes all about logic!

Interwoven into the puzzle book is the story of a young space engineer who must escape an abandoned planet. Each puzzle brings her closer to rescue, seamlessly integrating the story and activity to help keep kids engaged. Perfect for learning logic, basic computing, and good, clean, screen-free fun! Includes 30 Ramps, 6 Crossovers, 10 Bits, 3 Interceptors, 4 Gears, 8 Gear Bits, 20 Red marbles, 20 Blue marbles, and 30 counterweights.

What's the most ferocious creature you can imagine? Maybe if you could combine a crocodile with a hammerhead shark and a grizzly bear? This game challenges players to combine imaginary animals out of the fronts, middles, and backs of a variety of animals. Players start with 7 cards and they can create creatures to attack other players. If you are challenged, you must answer with an animal from your hand (if you have enough pieces to create an animal). The cards feature fun, simple, cartoonish, line drawings that fit together. Partial descriptions of each animal are on the bottom of each card to make a funny complete description of the fictitious animal. Each card has a strength value on it; if your creature has a higher value than another, you win the battle! If you create enough champion creatures, you win the game! 2-6 players, game 20-60 minutes. ~ Megan

How well do you know your birds? In this game, the fewer clues you need to figure out the type of bird, the more points you'll score. The game is composed of 300 cards (at three different levels), with each card showing a photograph of the bird on one side and five clues and the name of the bird on the other. One player acts as the reader and reads the first clue to the player on their left, who is the answerer. If the answerer can name the bird after the first clue, they receive 5 points, if they need two clues, they get 4 points, etc, down to 0 points if they can't identify it. Then they become the new reader and play passes around the table. Whoever has the most points after eight rounds wins. For 2+ players.
